The Roy Keane faces that have inspired Aston Villa's impressive start
Roy Keane is terror. But he is apparently the kind of terror that Aston Villa needed because since he's joined the club as Paul Lambert's assistant manager, they've started the season undefeated with three wins and a draw, putting them second behind Chelsea after finishing 15th last season. And the players have been praising his influence.
Said Alan Hutton (via the Daily Mail):
"He can be occasionally volcanic, is that threat useful? I think so, it keeps you on your toes, but you want to perform for yourself," he said.
"You know he'll give you the shot you need to perform and spur you on, it's not a negative thing."
Joe Cole echoed that sentiment. From the Irish Independent:
“When he talks, people listen. I don’t know what it was like last year here but everyone I speak to around the place says how good the atmosphere is here now,” he said.
“The credit has got to go to the manager and to Roy for it because you always get led by your manager and your coaches.
“I just think from the football point of view it’s great for the club. Roy’s got a massive aura about him and the club needed that, needed something special."
Keane has a variety of looks that convey his volcanic aura in a number of subtle but fiery ways. The following is a collection of the ones he's used thus far to spur Villa on to an undefeated start. (Waring: You'll notice that as Roy Keane's beard grows menacingly thicker, your control over your bowels will lessen significantly.)
The "I can see you, I know what you've done, and you better fix it right now."
The "What the hell is wrong with you?"
The "You better run faster than I can."
The "He's going to yell at you, Mr. Linesman. But I am actually going to stomp your face into a curb."
The "I will chug this water just so I can use the bottle to collect your tears and then drink them at a leisurely pace."
The "Why the f*** are they playing a Katy Perry song before a football match?"
The "You're disappointing me even more than your dead grandparents."
The "Awww."
