DTotD: Samsunspor bus hit by a train

Turkish Super Lig club Samsunspor was driving home from an away match late Tuesday night when its bus driver pulled in front of a slowing train. According to Today's Zaman, many players were sleeping when the train collided with the rear of the bus, which will ensure night terrors for while.

Two players suffered injuries, though none were classified as serious. Maybe next time they'll just take the train.

Interesting. It appears that the bus stopped for the red light and after it turned green proceeded to cross the tracks. It also appears that no lights were flashing at the tracks.
Does any one see something different. or is there another view.

no but laws are probably different than here. I would wonder why the driver did not stop and look before crossing but we cant see what is said on the road sign across the intersection. Note uncontrolled crossing no lights or stop arms. This is a country that is going after Fergie for showing what is happening in orphanages there to cover their embarrassment of holding children like criminals in said orphanages, I.E. chained to a bed.

Greyhound buses have to stop like at a stop sign before crossing the tracks even if the light is green (not flashing in the US). I think this started with a similar accident in the late '90s when a bus got hit and lights weren't flashing.

As a former UP signal maintainer I can tell you that there never should be a green to proceed across tracks with a train coming. There are a few situations where tracks are right at a traffic signal and do turn green so cars stopped on the tracks will proceed and clear the tracks.however this does not appear to be the case..

I don't understand why they had the green light if a train was coming. It looks like the bus was stopped and must have thought it was OK to go on. But in the state I live in, buses ALWAYS have to stop at a railroad track and open their door to see if they can hear anything coming.

As a Class A driver in the US I have questions. Just out of curiosity, why didn't the bus driver see the lights coming down the track? Was the train blowing its whistle? Do trains have whistles in Turkey? Do bus drivers have licenses in Turkey? What turkey was behind the wheel?
