Kansas loses to FCS South Dakota St. on fumbled spike attempt (Video)

Kansas fell behind big in its opener to FCS South Dakota State, but it had a chance to tie the game in the final minute. It did not go as planned.

Down 41-38, Kansas advanced down to the SDSU 33-yard line looking to spike the ball and stop the clock, but Jayhawks quarterback Montell Cozart somehow fumbled the snap.

The time then ran out and Kansas lost without being able to attempt a game-tying field goal.

Here’s another look:

Kansas was down 31-7 at one point in the game – David Beaty’s first as head coach – so the Jayhawks clawed back a long way to get the chance to tie it. Instead, it fell to SDSU, an FCS program that went 9-5 in 2014. It was the first win over an FBS team in the history of the Jackrabbits’ program.

Kansas, which went 3-9 in 2014, drops to 0-1. It could be a long season for the Jayhawks.
