Boston College hires Scot Loeffler as offensive coordinator

Scot Loeffler wasn’t retained by Virginia Tech’s new staff after the retirement of Frank Beamer, but he’ll continue coaching in the ACC.

Boston College announced Tuesday that it has hired Loeffler as offensive coordinator. Loeffler has twice coached alongside BC head coach Steve Addazio. He was offensive coordinator at Temple in 2011 when Addazio was the Owls’ head coach. He also served as Florida’s quarterbacks coach in 2009 and 2010 when Addazio was the Gators’ offensive coordinator.

Loeffler spent the last three seasons as offensive coordinator at Virginia Tech.

"I am excited to have Scot Loeffler and his family join the Boston College football family," Addazio said. "Scot and I have worked together at Florida and he was my offensive coordinator at Temple where we won nine games, including the first bowl victory in 32 years. He is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks coaches in the country and has a tremendous insight into the passing game and the offense as a whole. He is bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to BC."

Loeffler was also an assistant with the Detroit Lions, at Central Michigan and Michigan, his alma mater.

"I am excited to be a part of Coach Addazio's program. Boston College is not only a great academic institution with a great college community, but it also has rich football tradition," Loeffler said. "The administration is great; I know (athletic director) Brad Bates from my Michigan days. It's exciting to be a part of such a great institution with fantastic people."

During his career, Loeffler has coached seven quarterbacks who went on to the NFL: Tom Brady (Michigan), Tim Tebow (Florida), Brian Griese (Michigan), Chad Henne (Michigan), Drew Henson (Michigan), John Navarre (Michigan) and Logan Thomas (Virginia Tech).

In accordance with Loeffler’s hire, Addazio announced that Todd Fritch, BC’s offensive coordinator in 2015, will move back to wide receivers coach.

Boston College went 3-9 in 2015.
