It’s Your 2013 Exit Interview: No. 26 David Gilliland

Welcome to From the Marbles' 2013 driver reviews. Here, we're going to critique, praise and bloviate about the top 30 drivers in the 2013 NASCAR season. It's Gilly's game now.

David, we didn't expect you so soon. We're just blasting away to Rihanna. Care to sing along with us? We heard you when you took lead vocals on this song earlier this year and it was a sparkling performance. We'd appreciate an impromptu replication if you're up for it.

Much like your teammate named David, you really liked Talladega this year. That was a great example of teamwork in the spring -- see what can be accomplished when people work together? -- and you followed it up impressively in the fall. You've become one of the best at playing that lottery, and that's an underrated skill and combination of luck to have.

But outside of your Rihannaing, and Talladega, we've just got a whole bunch of finishes in the 20s and 30s. And that's probably about right. That's why you were so familiar with Ms. Patrick's driving ability.

Can we take this moment to ask you a question that's tangentially related to your work performance? Do you actually eat at Long John Silver's or is this whole thing just a front and you're a Captain D's man?

Hopefully it's neither and you avoid fast-food seafood like you should, but we understand if you have a hush puppy addiction. Those things are tasty, even if they may have 15 ingredients we can't pronounce.

We're also glad that along with the other David you're coming back next year, and we're intrigued to see who your other teammate will be after the departure of Josh Wise from the No. 35 car.
