Yuba-Sutter football coaches predict Super Bowl winner

Feb. 9—With Super Bowl LVIII set to kickoff tomorrow in Las Vegas, we asked our Yuba-Sutter High football coaches who will take this year's Vince Lombardi trophy home.

The overwhelming majority favored San Francisco to win for the first time since the 1994-95 when then-quarterback Steve Young, receivers Jerry Rice and John Taylor, running back Ricky Watters and company overwhelmed San Diego, 49-26.

Here's how our coaches voted: — Ryan Reynolds, Sutter Union High School

49ers All the Way!!!! (31-23)

Reason: I am a huge 49er fan, so obviously I'm going with my team. However, I will admit that I have a huge amount of respect for the Kansas City franchise, coach Andy Reid, and of course Mahomes, Kelce, Pacheco and company. But let's face it, the 49er roster is the most talented in the league this year. If they show up and play to their potential for four quarters, they will be unstoppable. I believe it will be an entertaining game that will go back and forth, but in the end the 49ers will come out on top. — Mikey Badaluco, Colusa High School

49ers 31, Chiefs 17

Reason: I think CMC (McCaffrey) and Deebo will have big numbers in the run game. I think the 49ers defense has been underperforming in the playoffs but with the magnitude of this game I expect them to get back to form. BANG BANG — Robert Tilton, Live Oak High School

49ers 24, Chiefs 21

Reason: 49ers have a great defense and more playmakers on offense. — Will Claggett, Marysville High School

49ers 34, Chiefs 28

Reason: SF has too much firepower and the 2nd half of the NFC Championship helped them find their groove again. Mahomes, Kelce, and T Swift will be hard to beat, but Purdy will be the difference maker. — Troy Spangler, Lindhurst High School

Chiefs 24-17

Reason: Chiefs. They are getting better each week and are on a roll at the right time. I feel they have also played a tougher schedule.
