May 14, 2023; Bronx, New York, USA; New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (48) tosses his bat after striking out during the seventh inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees slugger Anthony Rizzo was named AL Player of the Week after leading the majors in hits and runs scored over seven games from May 8 through May 14.

Rizzo went 12-for-27 at the plate, slashing .444/.500/.815 with a 1.315 OPS, as his batting average and OPS were second in the AL during the week. He hit three home runs and one double with seven RBI, three walks, and 10 runs scored. Rizzo also had multiple hits in five of the Yankees' seven games and reached base multiple times in six of those games.

Overall, Rizzo is now hitting .312 over 41 games this season with nine home runs, six doubles, and 22 RBI.

Rizzo helped the Yanks sweep the lowly Oakland A's and then split their four-game series with the MLB-best Tampa Bay Rays. New York is now 23-19 on the season, but remain in fourth place in the AL East, trailing the Rays by eight games.

The 33-year-old and the Yankees hope to make up some ground in the division this week, as they begin a big four-game series with the Blue Jays on Monday night in Toronto.
