Boston College baseball coach Todd Interdonato will not be in the dugout for Sunday's three-game series finale against Notre Dame.

Interdonato, who was hired at Boston College before the 2023 season, is serving a one-game suspension for not adhering to both NCAA and ACC rules. He fielded a suspended player during Saturday's game against the Fighting Irish, according to the program.

Why is Boston College's Todd Interdonato suspended vs. Notre Dame?

Interdonato did not properly enforce the NCAA and ACC's suspension policy for a player during Saturday's game against Notre Dame, which the Irish won 9-4. Brad Lombardi pitched in the bottom of the eighth inning vs. Notre Dame, retiring three batters and notching two strikeouts with Notre Dame holding a 9-4 lead.

Lombardi had previously been ejected from the Eagles' Wednesday game vs. UConn when, in the top of the eighth, he hit UConn's Lake Broadhurst. Boston College won the game 8-2 to earn the season sweep of the Huskies.

"During yesterday's game at Notre Dame, I inadvertently had a student-at hlete in the lineup who was not eligible to play — thus violating NCAA and ACC rules. I apologize for my mistake and accept today's one-game suspension," Interdonato said in a statement provided by the program on X.

The ACC also issued a statement on Sunday regarding the incident:

ACC statement on Todd Interdonato suspension

"NCAA rules state 'a pitcher who is ejected during a game is ineligible to play in the next four consecutive games. Boston College failed to adhere to this rule by having the pitcher play after sitting out only one game. The pitcher will resume serving the penalty by not participating in the next three consecutive games," the league said in the statement.

"Finally, the ACC supports the decision by Boston College to suspend its head baseball coach for today's game and considers this matter closed and will have no further comment."

Interdonato is in his second season at Boston College after serving in a similar role at Wofford College for 16 seasons. He is 57-38 overall and 23-27 in ACC play with the Eagles.

Notre Dame (19-18 overall, 4-16 in ACC play) is looking to complete the sweep on Sunday against Boston College (20-18, 7-13). The Irish are currently leading the Eagles 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning in South Bend.
