Why this AP voter ranked Auburn at seven

A lot of Auburn fans believe that the Tigers should be a top ten team after their performance against Ole Miss,

One AP voter believed that they should be ranked number seven.

Mike Barber of the Richmond Times-Dispatch explained his reasoning as to why he ranked Auburn so high in an email to Auburn Wire.

“One of the main things I’m looking for at this point in the season is, quality wins vs. bad losses,” Barber said. “Auburn doesn’t have a bad loss. Losing at Penn State and losing to No. 1 Georgia hardly qualify there. The Arkansas and Ole Miss wins are certainly quality wins. Same reason I’m lower on Texas A&M than most voters. A&M has a great win over Alabama, a bad loss to Mississippi State, and nothing else to speak of.

“It’s also worth noting, I had Auburn at No. 12 last week on my ballot and Ole Miss at No. 7. So I moved the Tigers from just outside my Top 10 to into my Top 10 after they beat the team I had at 7. I think people look at it like, wow, Auburn jumped from 18 to 7 on that guy’s ballot, but I have been higher on the Tigers than other people for a few weeks now.”

Auburn is ranked 14 in the AP poll.
