Westborough edges Concord-Carlisle to advance to Division 2 boys' tennis state championship

Westborough 3, Concord-Carlisle 2: The second-seeded Rangers took first and second singles, and No. 2 doubles while edging the No. 3 Patriots at Marlborough High to advance to Saturday's Division 2 boys' tennis state final.

Westborough (16-5), which defeated Concord-Carlisle (11-5) at home, 4-1, on April 27, will face the winner of Wednesday's semifinal between No. 1 Duxbury (21-1) and No. 5 Hopkinton (20-1) in the championship match Saturday at MIT.

The Rangers' Srinjoy Ghosh rebounded from a nailbiting first set to prevail in three sets over the Patriots' Lucas Bikkesbakker, who took the first set, 7-6, with a 9-7 tiebreaker. Ghosh, who won at second singles during the first meeting against C-C, took the final two sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Westborough's Kaden Chen won second singles, 6-1, 6-0, over Webb Constable, the lone Patriot winner in the teams' first meeting.

Brendan Estaphan and Jordan Hlawek took second doubles over Brooks Miller and Brendan Graziani, as they did in April. The score was 6-2, 6-3.

Concord-Carlisle's winners were Ben Ostrowski, 6-0, 7-5 over Jorge Garcia-Gonzalez in third singles, and Dan Lynch and Robert Soares in second doubles, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Michael Ku and Eehab Khan.

Westborough started the season 0-2, with losses to Division 1 state semifinalist Wellesley and 3-2 to Duxbury on April 5. Their other setbacks were to Division 1 semifinalist St. John's Prep, Division 4 semifinalist Weston, Division 1 finalist Lexington and at St. John's, the 11th seed in Division 1.

The Westborough girls' tennis team plays in a Division 2 state semifinal against Notre Dame (Hingham) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Newton South High. If the Rangers win, they'll join the boys' tennis squad Saturday at MIT.
