Weekend baseball includes Clark Traders' season-opening amateur baseball win

RAPID CITY — Watertown Post 17 closed out a weekend trip to Rapid City by scoring nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 14-6 win over the Post 320 Stars in an American Legion baseball game on Sunday.

Post 17 (7-8 overall) won two of the three games over the weekend against Post 320.

Watertown mixed 10 hits with 10 walks, two hit batsmen and three errors to plate the 14 runs. Treyton Himmerich and Carson Mutschler each drove in three runs with a double and a single. Markus Pitkin also doubled and Drew Denzer, Jack Heesch, Ryan Roby, Spencer Wientjes and Dylon Rawdon each singled.

Heesch also got the win with three shutout innings of relief for starter Justin Remmers, who allowed only two earned runs in four innings but left with a 6-5 deficit.

Joe Corwin doubled and drove in two runs for Post 320.

Post 17 visits the Aberdeen Smittys for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Region 2B High School Baseball

REDFIELD — The second-seeded Redfield Area Muskrats clinched a berth in the state Class B tournament May 29-30 at Sioux Falls Stadium by winning their half of Region 2B on Sunday.

The Muskrats (10-1) opened with a 7-0 win over No. 7 Hamlin Area and No. 6 Sioux Valley knocked off No. 3 Groton Area 9-4. Redfield Area then handled Sioux Valley 10-0 in the final game.

Erik Salmen plated three runs with a double and a triple and Seth Siebrecht allowed only one hit over six innings in the win over Hamlin Area. Nolan Gall, Keaton Rohlfs and Elliot Komraus each doubled.

Booker Schooley's single was the lone hit for Hamlin Area (3-7).

Salmen smacked a three-run double and Komraus and Elijah Morrissette each added two-run doubles for Redfield Area in the win over Sioux Valley. Gall, who also doubled, joined Riley Fliehe, Mason Whitley, Komraus and Kevin Weller with two hits apiece. Rohlfs went the distance on the mound,.

Braden Danzeisen hit a double and a single for Sioux Valley (5-6).

Jack Opitz drove in three runs with three singles to lead Sioux Valley past Groton Area. Danzeisen and Levi Loban each doubled and singled and winning pitcher Connor Gross hit two singles.

Tate Larson hit a double and a single and drove in three runs for Groton Area (7-3). Logan Ringgenberg added two singles.

Clark Traders 11, Groton Locke Electric 4

GROTON — Rhett Florey went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and the Clark Traders used an eight-run third inning to roll to the season-opening amateur baseball win on Sunday.

Four Clark pitchers combined for the win on the mound.

Austin Jones delivered a run-scoring single and Spencer Locke, who also singled, drove in a run with a groundout for Groton.

Clark hosts Elkton at 8 p.m. on Friday and the Lake Norden Lakers at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Clark-Willow Lake Senators 9-0, Lake Norden 8-15

LAKE NORDEN — Clark-Willow Lake and Lake Norden split the American Legion baseball doubleheader on Saturday.
