Week 6 roundup: Cocoa romp plus big district wins for EG, Heritage, Melbourne, Palm Bay

There were five shutout wins by Brevard County teams in Week 6, including a statement victory by Cocoa High against a ranked visitor.

Meanwhile, several teams opened district play for 2023, and Eau Gallie came from behind to win by a point in 10-3S.

Heritage 38, Viera 0

Tayshawn Benson trotted into the west end zone at 7:49 of the first quarter, and it was the beginning of a big night for the visiting Panthers in the District 11-4S opener.

Heritage, now 5-1 overall, scored six touchdowns before halftime for all the night's points. Axzavian Alexander had the biggest play of the night, an 83-yard run midway through the second period.

Joseph Tenta scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper, and he threw touchdown passes to Keegan Machell and Isaiah Cordero. The other Panthers touchdown went to Daniel Khawly on a 24-yard run.

Heritage will visit Ft. Pierce Central in Week 7, and Viera hosts Bayside.

Cocoa 38, Treasure Coast 0

The Tigers left no doubt at home with the shutout of the No. 3 team in Class 4S.

Brady Hart threw a pair of touchdown passes to Jayvan Boggs, while Latrison Lane and Malachi Coney rushed for scores.

Cocoa, the top-ranked team in 2S according to the USA Today Florida Network, hosts Sanford Seminole in Week 7.

Eau Gallie 12, Merritt Island 11

The Commodores scored on a Delvonte Williams 49-yard run with 5:34 to play, coming back to win the District 10-3S game.

Eau Gallie improved to 5-1 overall, bouncing back from last week's loss at Cocoa. Merritt Island dropped to 4-2. Tay Welch gave the Commodores a first-quarter lead on an 8-yard run, but the Mustangs took the lead with a 59-yard Tobias Semper scoring run 1:05 before halftime.

Eau Gallie, which leads the district at 2-0, hosts Flagler Palm Coast next week, while Merritt Island hosts Bayside on Oct. 13.

Melbourne 14, Harmony 0

With the home shutout, the Bulldogs put together back-to-back victories and started off District 11-4S play with a win.

Kyramrion Johnson and Jaylen Daley each recorded rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, the game's only scoring.

Melbourne, now 2-4 overall, visits Palm Bay next.

Palm Bay 49, Astronaut 14

Jeremy Pittman, Zach Emery-Foster and Deuel Fider each scored a pair of touchdowns as the Pirates got their first District 12-2S win of the year, beating the War Eagles in Titusville.

Fider picked up an Astronaut fumble and ran 15 yards for a defensive score in the second quarter to help Palm Bay push its one-score lead after a period to 28-7 by intermission. He added a 53-yard run in the first minute of the third, and Brandon Cook rushed 45 yards for another score just minutes later as the visitors pulled away and improved their overall record to 4-2.

Palm Bay hosts Melbourne on Friday, and the War Eagles visit Winter Springs.

Satellite 21, Bayside 14

In Palm Bay, the Scorps won the District 10-3S game, scoring the only touchdown of the second half.

Bayside took the game's first lead at 10:09 of the first on a David Francis 6-yard run, and he scored again on a 4-yarder in the second.

Satellite, 4-2 overall, scored on an 11-yard pass from Ethan Rafaele to Jaydin Lamb and a Rafaele run and led at the half, 15-14.

Satellite visits Seabreeze in a week, and Bayside plays at Viera.

Holy Trinity 42, Halifax Academy 8

The Tigers overwhelmed their previously unbeaten visitors and forced a second-half running clock in District 4-1S competition on Friday in Melbourne.

It started early, Kamar Fielder returning the opening kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown. Brogan McNab threw touchdown passes to Dylan Jenson and Jaeden McMillan, who also scored on a rushing attempt and a fourth-quarter kickoff return. McNab also ran 47 yards for a score as the first half expired.

The Tigers host Space Coast next.

Titusville 62, Space Coast 0

The Terriers won the U.S. 1 Cup on the road in Port St. John as Jamarion Stephens scored four touchdowns in the first half, his longest going 30 yards.

Jaden Brown returned a punt 70 yards for another Titusville touchdown, and Josiah Allen connected with Ralph Smith for a 12-yard scoring toss, both in the third.

Ray Wilson-Polydor scored on a 50-yard run, and Camari Jackson caught a 40-yard pass from Elijah Jenkins.

Titusville, now 6-0, hosts Calvary Christian in a week, and Space Coast plays at Holy Trinity.

MCC 49, Father Lopez 0

The Hustlers won in Daytona Beach in the District 4-1S opener.

Melbourne Central Catholic improved to 4-2 overall. MCC plays at Mt. Dora Christian in Week 7. Father Lopez dropped to 1-5.

Trinity Christian 19, Rockledge 13 (OT)

In Jacksonville, the Raiders pushed the home team to overtime but couldn't score on their possession in the extra period.

It stopped a three-game winning streak for Rockledge, now 3-3 with all the losses coming out of Brevard County.

For the Raiders, Jamarcus Giscombe returned a first-quarter interception 38 yards for a touchdown, and he caught a 15-yard pass from Traven Green with 7:42 to play to tie the game. The extra-point attempt was blocked.

Cameron Anderson, who also ran for a 58-yard touchdown in regulation, scored from the 6 in overtime for the Conquerors (4-2).

Rockledge visits Satellite on Oct. 13.

Windermere Prep 8, Cocoa Beach 7

The visitors scored their only touchdown on a pass with eight seconds to play to win in Cocoa Beach.

The Minutemen took the lead on an Aaron Garber 2-yard run at 1:28 of the game, scoreless for the first 46 minutes and 32 seconds.

Cocoa Beach plays at St. Edward's in Vero Beach next.

Calvary Chapel 43, City of Life 6

The Eagles won for the fifth time in seven games and play at Lake Mary Prep in a week.

Master's Academy 28, Merritt Island Christian 0

The visitors from Vero Beach dropped the Cougars to 5-2. MIC hosts Liberty Christian Prep on Friday.
