Daily Press readers can now vote for their favorite high school athletes at the newspaper's website, VVDailyPress.com. The poll closes on Wednesday night.

Here are the choices for the week, based on performances from Dec. 4 to 9.

  • Brayden Gilford, Excelsior soccer — Brayden helped the Eagles to two victories, and was named the team’s Player of the Week. He scored a goal in Excelsior’s 3-2 victory over ACE on Dec. 11 and then scored a goal with two assists in a 9-1 victory over UCSA on Dec. 13.

  • Chloe Navarrete, Granite Hills wrestling — Chloe claimed first place at the Lady’s Desert Mirage tournament on Dec. 16. Chloe picked up three victories for the title. She spent a total of three minutes and 22 seconds on the mat as she won all three matches by pinfall. She won the title by pinning Vista Murrieta’s Nicole Grending at the 1:08 mark.

  • Damien Grundy, Silver Valley basketball —  Damien led the way for the Trojans with 25 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists in a huge 81-67 victory in overtime against Apple Valley on Dec. 14. Damien began the week with 10 points, four assists, a steal and a rebound in a 77-13 victory over Lucerne Valley on Dec. 12. The following night, Damien scored 10 points with eight assists, three steals and a rebound in a 71-28 victory over University Prep.

  • Denzel Cisneros, Sultana wrestling — Denzel captured the 138-pound title at the Raul Huerta Invitational on Dec. 16. He pinned Canyon Springs’ David Fletes at the 3:38 mark of the second period for the title. He ended the tournament with five victories, all by pinfall. Three of his pinfall victories came in under two minutes.

  • Elizabeth Udeze, Silverado girls basketball — Elizabeth had a big performance in two victories for the Hawks. In a 45-39 victory over Oak Hills on Dec. 12, Elizabeth led the way with 18 points. Elizabeth followed that up with a 19-point performance in a 62-21 victory over Riverside Prep on Dec. 15.

  • Eric Castaneda-De La Torre, Adelanto wrestling — Eric claimed second place in the 190-pound division at the Raul Huerta Invitational on Dec. 16. Eric won three matches by decision to reach the title match and lost a 3-1 decision to David Ito, of Roosevelt.

  • Jeremiah Wilkerson, Apple Valley basketball — Jeremiah led the Sun Devils with 25 points and eight rebounds in a 64-56 victory over Big Bear on Dec. 12. Jeremiah also scored 16 points with three rebounds, five steals, two assists and a block in an 81-67 loss in overtime against Silver Valley on Dec. 14.

  • Lianna Tsabur, Granite Hills soccer —  Lianna scored four goals in three games for the Cougars. She scored two goals in a 2-1 victory over Beaumont on Dec. 14. She scored a goal and added an assist in a 4-2 loss to Oak Hills on Dec. 12, and also scored in a 4-4 draw with Irvine on Dec. 16.

  • O’Shaun Rodriguez, Adelanto basketball — O’Shaun led the way for the Saints in a thrilling 58-56 victory over Chaparral on Dec. 12. O’Shaun nailed a crucial free throw as the Saints pulled off the victory. He led the team with 18 points.

  • Paulo Valdez, Hesperia wrestling — Paulo claimed the 113-pound title at the Reno Tournament of Champions on Dec. 16. Paulo scored an 8-2 decision over St. John Bosco’s Sean Wilcox in the championship match at 113 pounds. Paulo won six total matches in the tournament.

  • Victoria Enright, Lucerne Valley soccer — Victoria had a highlight-worthy goal in a 9-0 victory over Summit Leadership Academy on Dec. 14. Victoria took a corner kick for the Mustangs and scored an unassisted goal.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
