Vote for The Oklahoman's Landmark Fine Homes HS girls athletes of week for Jan. 9-15

The Oklahoman's girls athletes of the week poll for Jan. 9-15 presented by Landmark Fine Homes is now live at oklahoman.com.

Voting is open until noon Sunday. You don't have to be a subscriber to vote, and you can cast one vote every hour, per device.

The winners of the Jan. 2-8 poll were Leah Bradley of Newcastle basketball and Dixie Holliday of Bethel wrestling.

Basketball

Cherish Haywood, Jr., Mustang: Haywood recorded a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and six assists as Mustang defeated Norman North, 76-62. Earlier in the week, she had 12 points and seven boards in a 61-39 win over Moore.

Avery Hjelmstad, Jr., Edmond Memorial: Hjelmstad hit five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points as the Bulldogs rolled past Enid, 66-32. Then she scored a team-best 15 points in a 58-51 victory against Tulsa Union, making five free throws in the fourth quarter.

Brianna Jones, Jr., Douglass: Jones led the 20th-ranked Class 4A Trojans with a double-double as they defeated rival Millwood, 64-43. She totaled 18 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Douglass also trounced Ardmore, 101-59, with 32 points from Jones.

Kneah Smith, Sr., Jones: Smith averaged 19.5 points per game with four rebounds and four steals as the fourth-ranked Class 3A Longhorns won both of their games last week. With a field-goal percentage of 62.5, Smith stockpiled 23 points as Jones stormed past Casady, 73-28.

Swimming 

Harper Brown, Fr., Bethany: She had wins in the 100-yard freestyle (1:09.63) and 200 freestyle relay (1:51.36) in a meet against Elgin, Lawton, Lawton Eisenhower, Lawton MacArthur and Putnam City on Friday. Bethany won the meet, which was in Lawton.

Ashlyn Bucy, So., Deer Creek: She claimed victories in the 100 backstroke (1:03.54) and 200 medley relay (2:02.02) at the Putnam City Invitational on Jan. 9. Deer Creek won the team title.

Jacee Jimeson, Sr., Mustang: Her top performance at the Putnam City Invitational was in the 100 backstroke. Jimeson placed second in 1:04.91.

Kamryn Pender, Jr., Yukon: She had four victories at the Putnam City Invitational. Pender competed in the 50 freestyle (25.44), 100 butterfly (1:03.62), 200 freestyle relay (1:47.35) and 400 freestyle relay (3:59.17).

Wrestling

Taylor Ellis-Hishaw, Jr., Edmond North: She won the 125-pound title at the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Tournament last week at Southmoore. Ellis-Hishaw, who placed third at the state tournament last year, helped Edmond North place second in the team standings.

Lynn Horn, Jr., Blanchard: She won the 135-pound title at the Malcolm Wade Memorial Invitational last week at Carl Albert. Horn, the state runner-up at 125 pounds last season, was named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler.

Hannah Lopez, So., Moore: Lopez is having another strong season after finishing 35-1 and winning the 105-pound state title as a freshman. She won the COAC championship at 115 pounds last week and helped Moore claim the team crown.

Kyrain Perez, So., Westmoore: She competed at 100 pounds at the COAC Tournament and claimed the title after defeating Moore’s KyLee Smith 6-4 in the finals.

Trysten Rittberger, Sr., Yukon: She won the 140-pound crown at the COAC Tournament.

Claire Solansky, So., El Reno: She claimed the 115-pound title at the Malcolm Wade Memorial Invitational.
