Vote for the Oklahoma City-area high school athlete, team of the week

The Oklahoman's winter sport athletes of the week poll for Feb. 6-12 presented by Landmark Fine Homes is now live at oklahoman.com.

The Oklahoman is also conducting polls for a girls team of the week and a boys team of the week.

Voting is open until noon Sunday. You don't have to be a subscriber to vote, and you can cast one vote every hour, per device.

The winners of the Jan. 30-Feb. 5 poll were Tylyn Thurman of Shawnee girls basketball, Clara Timmons of Shawnee girls swimming, Jaden Nickens of Douglass boys basketball and Garrett Levendofsky of Edmond North boys swimming.

The team winners were Shawnee girls swimming and Edmond North boys swimming.

Boys basketball

Bryson Buckingham, Sr., Casady: Buckingham scored 23 first-half points in the Cyclones’ win over EPIC Charter on Thursday. He’s helped lead Casady to win five of its last six games heading into regionals.

Darian Grant, Sr., Moore: Grant had a stellar week capped off by totaling 29 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists on Friday against Mustang. He also led the charge in the Lions’ upset win Tuesday over Edmond North, who hadn’t lost in Oklahoma since 2022.

Quincy Hopkins, Sr., Carl Albert: The Titans have won six games in a row thanks to the electric play of its 6-foot-3 forward. Hopkins led a 17-point comeback win over Crossings Christian on Thursday.

Roman Miller, Jr., Mustang: Despite the Broncos’ recent struggles, Miller continues to show why he’s one of the best players in the 2025 class. He put up 35 points against Moore on Friday and has scored 20 or more points nine times this year.

Girls basketball

Pauline Black-Harmon, Sr., El Reno: Black-Harmon surpassed 1,000 career points during the past week, averaging 16 points per game against Western Heights and Guthrie. She finished with double-doubles in both matchups as El Reno preserved its perfect record.

Cherish Haywood, Jr., Mustang: Haywood led the Broncos with 14 points in their 60-31 victory at Deer Creek. Then she shot 5 for 7, or 71.4%, from the field to add 10 points in a 57-40 win against Moore. Haywood also had three assists, three rebounds and a steal against the Lions.

Karizma Johnson, Jr., Jones: Johnson accounted for more than half of Jones’ scoring with 23 points in a 42-35 victory at Oklahoma Christian School. The Class 3A Longhorns also defeated 4A North Rock Creek, 52-38, last week.

Ausha Moore, Sr., Carl Albert: Moore averaged 15 points and seven rebounds per game as Carl Albert picked up three wins during the past week. She provided 18 points in a 68-23 victory over Crossings Christian.

Boys wrestling

Parker Brown, Sr., Stillwater: He wrestled at 215 pounds in the Class 6A dual state quarterfinals against Sand Springs and pinned his opponent before competing at 190 in the semifinals against Edmond North. He won via technical fall and was just one of three Stillwater wrestlers to win a match in that dual.

Hudson Hackbarth, Sr., Edmond North: A 132-pounder, he defeated his three opponents at the Class 6A dual state tournament, helping the Huskies claim the championship.

Beau Tinder, Sr., Tuttle: The 150-pounder won his three matches at the dual state tournament as he helped Tuttle win the Class 4A title and pass Perry for the most in state history with 21.

Hayden Wright, Jr., Yukon: He was just one of two Yukon wrestlers who won his match in the Millers’ Class 6A dual state quarterfinal matchup against Broken Arrow. The 120-pounder won by decision.

Oklahoma HS dual state wrestling: Tuttle makes history; Edmond North dominates

Boys team of the week

Deer Creek basketball: The Antlers have managed to show up large in games against the state’s best all season long. Deer Creek bounced back from tough losses against Edmond North and Moore with dominant wins over Mustang and Piedmont, who they beat by 32 points on Friday.

Edmond North wrestling: The Class 6A Huskies claimed its second-ever dual title and its first since 2013 on Friday. Edmond North routed Bixby 51-9 in the dual state finals.

Moore basketball: The Lions have been rolling over the past few weeks while winning 11 consecutive games in Class 6A’s toughest district. They defeated two-time defending 6A champion Edmond North on Tuesday, giving the Huskies their first in-state loss in nearly two years.

Norman basketball: Head coach Cory Cole has the Tigers on a tear, winning 12 games in a row. Norman appears ready for the postseason following district wins over Lawton and Westmoore last week.

Tuttle wrestling: The Class 4A Tigers made state history Friday, passing Perry for the most dual state titles in state history with 21. Tuttle has won a state-record 15 straight dual state crowns.

Oklahoma HS dual state wrestling: Elgin wins 5A title; Marlow claims 3A crown

Girls team of the week

Dale basketball: The Class 2A Pirates recorded a pair of victories against ranked opponents. Top-ranked Dale defeated No. 6 Vanoss, 52-42, before slipping past No. 18 Latta, 49-46.

Carl Albert basketball: The Titans avenged their district loss to Shawnee with a 49-44 victory in the rematch. Carl Albert also defeated Crossings Christian and Western Heights to extend its win streak to five games.

Edmond Memorial basketball: After falling twice to Sand Springs earlier in the season, the Bulldogs figured out how to overpower the Sandites. Edmond Memorial won, 59-44, at home. The Bulldogs also defeated Bartlesville and Enid to improve to 12-1 in district play.
