Martin Dentistry Athlete of the Week: St. Mary's Michael Quedens

San Joaquin County voted and the Martin Dentistry Athlete of the Week for the week of May 6-12 is Michael Quedens of St. Mary's baseball. In an online poll that closed on Friday, Quedens received over 85% of votes cast for a total of 8,832 votes.

The Michigan commit added to a long list of accolades he's earned this season as he plays a vital role in the Rams' deep playoff run in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 bracket. Against Franklin in the first round, the left-handed slugger racked up three hits and a home run to lead his team to a 12-2 victory. Since then he has continued to be a consistent asset on both sides of the ball helping the Rams punch their ticket to their first SJS finals appearance since 2014.

In St. Mary's first game against Oak Ridge in the semifinals, there wasn't much the Trojans could do with Quedens on the mound. He finished the game with seven Ks, a 1.75 ERA, and only allowed two runs to earn his seventh win on the mound this season. The Rams would go on to sweep Oak Ridge in best-of-three games and will face Rocklin for the SJS Division 1 championship.

Laney Cox, softball, Linden: In the Lions' regular-season finale, Cox was near unstoppable anytime she came up to bat. The 5-foot-6 junior led her team’s offense past Ben Holt College Preparatory reeling in five RBIs, four hits and two runs. With her leading the charge, Linden would shut the Bobcats out 11-0.

Tamea Crear, track and field, St. Mary’s: As just a freshman, Creer is making a name for herself as one of the fastest runners from the Sac-Joaquin Section. During the SJS Finals this past weekend, she ran an 11.88 seconds 100-meter and a 24.62 seconds 200-meter to take home gold on the Division 1 level. She will be a runner to watch in the upcoming CIF State Meet.

Luke Crivello, baseball, Ripon Christian: The Knights hosted Millennium for the first round of the SJS Division 6 playoffs and entrusted Crivello to take the mound for them. The senior pitcher kept the Falcons at bay for just about the whole game racking up 10 Ks and only allowing one run. Ripon Christian took the game 4-1 thus punching its ticket to the quarterfinals.
