Chris Brady and DJ Murphy voted Boys Cross-Country Runners of the Week for Oct. 23-29

DJ Murphy, of Ridgewood, heads for a second place finish at the Big North Freedom Cross Country Championships, in Mahwah, Monday, October 2, 2023.

After four days of voting, Ridgewood seniors Chris Brady and DJ Murphy were selected as the North Jersey Boys Cross-Country Runners of the Week.

Murphy was second and Brady third, both with Garret Mountain bests as the Maroons pulled off a rare 1-5 sweep of the North 1, Group 4 sectional race, the first time it's ever been done in a group 4 sectional anywhere in the state.

Here were the other nominees:

Patrick Kurtz

PASCACK VALLEY Senior

Kurtz became the Panthers' first sectional champ in more than a decade when he held off Indian Hills star Dan Phillips to win the North 1, group 2 sectional title in one of the closest races in the state.

Aidan Morrow

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS Junior

Morrow joined his brother Evan as a sectional champ and established himself as one of the favorites for the State group 1 championship when he easily won the North 2 title at Greystone Park in Morris Plains.

Ben Raser and Ben Habler

GLEN ROCK Seniors

The "Bens" as they're known, went 2-3 with Garret Mountain bests to lead the Panthers to their first sectional title since 2001, defeating defending state group 1 champion and three-time sectional champ Kinnelon.

Max Thorn

BECTON junior

Thorn became Becton's first boy to qualify for a state group championship since 2005, with a solid 11th place finish in the strong North 2 group 2 sectional race at Greystone Park.
