It’s good to cover some spring high school sports and not have to dress like I’m heading out to shovel my driveway.

With warmer weather comes even better performances. It was a great weekend for track and field, with personal records and some of the all-time best performances taking place for some schools.

Some of the athletes who took advantage of the improved weather made this week’s Livingston Daily Athlete of the Week ballot.

Voting is open until late Wednesday afternoon. Vote early, vote often.

Tori Briggs, Fowlerville softball

Briggs went 8-for-13 in four games last week, hitting three home runs and two doubles. She drove in nine runs and scored eight. Two of those homers came in a victory against Saranac in which she struck out eight batters in four innings. Briggs is hitting .453 with five homers and 25 RBI.

Hunter Harding, Brighton track and field

Harding became the first Livingston County thrower to reach 150 feet in discus since 2017 when he hit that mark on the button to place fourth in the Golden Triangle meet at Saline. The last county thrower to exceed 150 feet was Livingston Christian’s Paxton Titus, a state Division 4 champion who threw 182-6 in 2017.

Kate McIntyre, Hartland softball

McIntyre doubled home the game’s only run in a 1-0 victory over Howell, then hit a grand slam in an 8-5 victory over the Highlanders in the nightcap. She is hitting .404 with four homers, six doubles, three triples and 18 RBI.

Paul Moore, Pinckney track and field

Moore became the seventh-fastest 3,200-meter runner in Livingston County history with his winning time of 9:10.79 in the Mike Smith Elite 3,200 at the Saline Golden Triangle meet. His time ranks fourth in Division 2 this year and fourth in school history. In a double-dual against Adrian and Jackson, his win in the 3,200 was Pinckney’s only first-place finish on the track.

Zach Spencer, Howell golf

Spencer tied for second place with a 1-over-par 73, leading Howell to the championship of the Jim Sander Memorial at Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland.
