Volusia-Flagler-St. Johns High School Athlete of the Week poll: May 1

The polls are open!

It's time to vote for the Volusia-Flagler-St. Johns Athlete of the Week for the week of April 24-29. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.

Last week, Spruce Creek tennis player Jenson Nord took home the honor, claiming 43% of the votes.

The News-Journal and Record gather nominees from scores and stats emailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across the area. Coaches can email nominees to sports@news-jrnl.com.

Voting will close at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

Baseball

Carter Oglageo, Trinity Christian: The senior blasted a home run and two doubles, driving in five runs in a 10-4 victory over Legacy Charter on Senior Night.

Anthony Ruocco, DeLand: The senior had three hits (two doubles) and five RBIs in a 15-4 victory over Seminole.

Dalton Schell, Flagler Palm Coast: The senior picked up three hits, including a homer, and three RBIs in a 15-5 win over Atlantic Coast.

Flag Football

Emma Corr, New Smyrna Beach: The sophomore threw for 112 yards and dominated on the ground in a 14-12 win over Chiles. She carried 17 times for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Lacrosse

Adrionna Ferrara, Bartram Trail: The senior scored 15 goals in two regional playoff wins over Lake Brantley and Lake Mary.

Softball

Jessica Camacho, St. Joseph: The junior hit a home run, scored three times and drove in four runs in a rout of Crescent City.

Hannah Harper, Taylor: The junior went 3-for-3 with a triple, a home run and four RBIs in a 10-6 win over Mount Dora Christian.

Ashley Sampselle, Matanzas: The sophomore cranked extra-base hits in all three at-bats (two doubles, one dinger) and compiled nine RBIs in a rout of St. Augustine.

Tennis

Demario Dawkins, Spruce Creek: The junior clinched the Hawks’ 4-2 win over Winter Park to push them into their first state Final Four. He finished with a singles record of 18-3 and doubles record of 20-5.

Zane Ensminger, Spruce Creek: The sophomore won both his singles and doubles matches in the 4A state semifinals. He closed the season with a singles record of 26-2 and doubles record of 23-3.

Kylie Kochis, Nease: The sophomore advanced to the finals of the 4A individual state singles tournament and paired with Blair Murray to reach the doubles finals.

Blair Murray, Nease: The freshman teamed with Kylie Kochis to advance to the 4A individual state doubles tournament finals.

Track and Field

Thania Barton, St. Augustine: The senior won the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes at the District 4-3A meet.

Sasha Gregory, Nease: The senior won three events at the District 2-4A meet: the 400-meter hurdles, the high jump and the long jump.

Lindy White, Ponte Vedra: The junior finished first in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs at the District 4-3A meet.

Volleyball

Jacob Tapp, Tocoi Creek: The senior put down 17 kills in a 3-2 win over Nease.
