Volusia-Flagler High School Athlete of the Week poll: April 29
The polls are open!
It's time to vote for the Volusia-Flagler Athlete of the Week for the week of April 22-27. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.
Last week, DeLand baseball player Jeremy Wright took home the honors, claiming 58% of the votes.
The News-Journal gathers nominees from scores and stats emailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across the area. Coaches can email nominees to cvinel@gannett.com.
Voting will close at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

Baseball
Andrew Ezell, Spruce Creek: The senior had two hits, driving in two runs during a 5-4 victory over Fleming Island.
Jayden Lochiatto, Deltona: The junior tallied four RBIs in a 6-5 upset of Lake Mary.
Flag football
Taylor Vance, New Smyrna Beach: The junior caught the go-ahead pass from Emma Corr on a two-point conversion attempt in the last minute against Boone during the regional semifinals. Moments later, she snagged an interception to seal the Barracudas' 8-7 win.
Softball
Tessa Guenette, Deltona: The junior pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk in a win over Astronaut. Guenette also struck out seven hitters.
Ava Henige, Matanzas: The freshman had two hits and a team-leading three RBIs during a 6-4 win over Palatka.
Addison Pertler, University: The junior went 3-for-4 at the plate and knocked in five runs during a 9-5 victory over Lake Mary.
Tennis
Lani Dirmeir, New Smyrna Beach: Dirmeir eked out a third-set tiebreaker for a No. 4 singles triumph over Edgewater, one that clinched the Barracudas' overall victory in the regional semifinals.
Hunter Shuler, Seabreeze: The sophomore secured two-set victories in No. 2 singles against Edgewater and Auburndale during the regional semifinals and finals.
Track and field
Ryan Herdel, Father Lopez: The junior won all three events he entered at the District 6-1A meet. He claimed the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.44 and 23.45 seconds. He also topped the javelin standings with a throw of 141 feet, 1.75 inches.
Aun'Yale Howard, Flagler Palm Coast: The senior scored in four events for the champion Bulldogs at the District 3-4A meet: the javelin, the triple jump, the long jump and the 4x100 relay. Her top individual finish was third place in the javelin throw (107 feet, 7.25 inches).
Ezaiah Shine, Mainland: The senior blazed to a victory in the 200-meter dash in 22.10 seconds at the District 6-3A meet, which the Bucs won. Shine also took second (10.97) in the 100-meter.
