Volleyball roundup: Hartselle defeats Cullman to take tourney title

Oct. 19—HARTSELLE — Ashley Holshouser had 24 kills and 13 digs as Hartselle defeated Cullman 3-2 to capture the Class 6A, Area 14 tournament championship on Wednesday.

With the win, Hartselle advances to next week's North Super Regional in Huntsville. Area tournament winners and runners-up advance to regional play. Cullman advanced to the championship match with a 3-0 win over Decatur.

Mary Frances Itsede had nine kills, seven digs and six aces for Hartselle, while Amber Holshouser added 38 assists and 18 digs. Brooklyn Stiles had 23 digs and Virginia Kate Hoyle had 13 digs and three aces.

Priceville, West Morgan advance: Priceville and West Morgan each earned spots in next week's regional round on Wednesday, with Priceville winning the Class 4A, Area 15 tournament and West Morgan finishing as runner-up.

Priceville defeated the Rebels 25-13, 19-25, 25-21, 28-26 in the championship match. West Morgan (23-25) advanced to the finals with a 16-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-15 win over East Lawrence. Priceville opened the tournament with a win over St. John Paul II.

Brooklyn Hunt led West Morgan with 28 kills and 35 digs on the day, while Victoria Parrish added 18 kills. Zoey Brewington had 50 digs for the Rebels and Kylei Russell had 57 assists. Shaylee Terry finished with 44 digs.

West Morgan will open regional play on Thursday at 9 a.m.

Lawrence County tops West Morgan: Hunt and Parrish had six kills each for West Morgan on Tuesday, as the Rebels fell to Lawrence County 25-19, 25-17, 20-25, 25-11 on Senior Night.

Haniyah Standridge added five kills for West Morgan, while Russell added 25 assists. Brewington finished with a team-high 23 digs.
