Viktor Lakhin departs UC Bearcats basketball, Edgerrin James says son, Skillings will stay

Via his Instagram account and according to University of Cincinnati sources, Viktor Lakhin's career as a Bearcat is over.

The 6-foot-11, 230-pound redshirt junior posted the following Monday night:

"Thank you people and University of Cincinnati! Thank you for the opportunity! Thank you for bringing me to America! Thank you for helping me! Thank you for supporting me! Thank you for everything! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I’ll always be a bearcat! I’m proud to be one! I’ll give back to the University of Cincinnati! My time in America will always be associated with University of Cincinnati and the queen city! Peace"

Lakhin has confirmed he will be entering the transfer portal.

The native of Anapa, Russia was recruited by John Brannen's staff and didn't play in 2020-21 due to injury. In his first year with Wes Miller he played 29 games averaging 4.2 points and 3.5 rebounds.

He became a starter last season making the opening tip for 32 of his 33 games played, averaging 11.6 points per game and 7.1 rebounds. He started much of this past season but missed the home win vs. UCF. He returned to the starting lineup but was benched after four games where he scored a total of four points in Big 12 games at West Virginia, Texas Tech and home vs. Houston and Iowa State.

From there, he was relegated to a role player though he did respond with 11 points and nine rebounds at Houston Feb. 27. He played 20 minutes in UC's next win over Kansas State, but then was injured and out again for the final two games of the regular season at Oklahoma and Senior Day vs. West Virginia.

In the Big 12 tournament, he played five minutes in the quarterfinal loss to Baylor with four points. They would be his last four points as a Bearcat.

In the NIT he he only played two minutes in the opener vs. San Francisco and wasn't a part of the Bradley win, nor the Indiana State quarterfinal loss.

After leading the team in scoring much of the year, he still finished as the fifth-leading scorer at 9.2 points per game and the third-leading rebounder with 6.0 per game.

Lakhin had his career high in scoring this season against Eastern Washington when he had 23 points last Nov. 12. He made a career-high five treys in the win over Georgia Tech Nov. 22. However, he missed his last 13 triple attempts dating back to Jan. 20 vs. Oklahoma.

Lakhin was one of UC's players featured in their inaugural trip to Big 12 Media Day in October and started 24 of 29 games this season and 56 of the 91 he played as a Bearcat.

Edgerrin James indicates Jizzle, Dan Skillings Jr. will stay

In response to an April Fools post stating Jizzle James and Dan Skillings Jr. were entering the NBA Draft, NFL Hall of Famer Edgerrin James posted on Instagram a scene from "Wolf of Wall Street" where Leonardo DiCaprio indicates he is not leaving in no uncertain terms.

The elder James then replied, "to be CONTINUED..."

Jizzle James in 37 games and two starts averaged 8.8 points per game with his season highs coming in the second-round NIT win over Bradley (25 points) and in the quarterfinal loss at Indiana State (21). Tuesday, UC associate head coach Chad Dollar was in Miami with Edgerrin James.

Skillings led the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game starting 15 of 36 games. He was the second-leading rebounder at 6.4 per game and second on the team in blocks with 25 behind 7-footer Aziz Bandaogo.
