Vikings CB Mark Fields II designated to return from IR

The Vikings have struggled with cornerback depth this season, and it looks like help could be on the way soon.

The team annoucned that cornerback Mark Fields II is designated to return from IR.

Fields II is a decent option for the slot corner spot. Earlier in the season, he played against the Titans on special teams. Against the Packers in Green Bay, Wis., he played 20 defensive snaps. He finished with one solo tackle.

Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that Fields suffered a punctured lung from being hit by an opponent’s cleat during the Packers victory.

Fields II might not be the team’s No. 1 option at corner, but he definitely can help solidify the group. Minnesota still has its injuries to deal with at corner, though. As it stands, cornerbacks Holton Hill, Mike Hughes and S/CB George Iloka are all on the reserve/injured list.

Minnesota’s new-look corner group has dealt with plenty of inconsistency. Hopefully for the Vikings, Fields II can earn some playing time soon.
