Mets GM appears to say Rob Manfred 'just doesn't get it'
New York Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen was caught on camera appearing to say MLB commissioner Rob Manfred suggested players do a symbolic walkout before Thursday's game even though the teams said they did not want to play. Later, in a statement, Van Wagenen clarified it was Mets COO Jeff Wilpon who had the idea.

BRODIE VAN WAGENEN: --that he's mulling that over. Baseball's trying to come up with a-- solution, saying, oh you know what'd be super powerful? Three of us here can't leave this room, just so you know.
(QUIETLY) You know what'd be really great, if you just have them all take the field. Then they leave the field. And then they come back and play at 8:10. And I was like, what?

BRODIE VAN WAGENEN: Rob. And with Jeff, scheduling's gonna be a nightmare, and there's so much at stake. And I said, Jeff, that's not happening. You guys are not playing.
- They're not dealing with reality.
BRODIE VAN WAGENEN: They're not playing, but that's Rob's instinct. And Rob not-- exactly what you and I were talking about. At leadership level, he doesn't get it. He just doesn't get it. And--
