Gregg Berhalter has called Gio Reyna up to the USMNT squad for the first time since he returned after they recently held positive talks, while Heidenheim's Lennard Maloney gets a first call up at the age of 23 so he is one to look out for in these two marquee friendlies which will tell us a lot about where the USMNT is currently at.

Key notes on October roster omissions, inclusion

Berhalter explained that Antonee Robinson and Mark McKenzie have been left out to deal with small injuries they can recover fully from, while Cameron Carter-Vickers is back in as he returned from injury for Celtic in recent days.

Wolfsburg youngster Kevin Paredes and Kristoffer Lund of Palermo were also called up but Haji Wright was not included.

The USMNT head coach also confirmed he has held talks with Burnley's teenage winger Luca Koleosho about his international future. Koleosho has recently played for Italy's U19 and U20 sides but has played for the U.S. at U15 level and was born in Connecticut.

With the MLS playoffs in full flow in October, Berhalter has selected 22 players from outside MLS in his 23-man squad with the New England Revolution's DeJuan Jones the only MLS player included.

The U.S. host Germany in Hartford's Rentschler Field on Oct. 14, then host Ghana in Nashville's Geodis Park on Oct. 17.
