Unatego girls down Oxford; Morris boys score 94 in win

Dec. 13—The Unatego girls basketball team shut down Oxford for a 68-28 home win Wednesday in Midstate Athletic Conference action.

After leading 18-11 in the first quarter, the Spartans clamped down on defense to allow just 17 points the rest of the game.

Lizzie Craft led the scoring with 17 points for Unatego while Harly Birdsall scored 12 points and Ivy Tice pitched in nine.

Raya Warner was Oxford's top scorer with 10 points.

Unatego will be off until next Thursday when it visits Walton/Downsville. Oxford will be in Morris Friday for the Joan Martin Tournament.

Schenevus 45, Worcester 39

Schenevus used a strong fourth quarter to defeat Worcester on the road Wednesday.

Amber Burton led the Dragons with 17 points while Sam Barrett added 12 points in the win.

Hailey Shalor scored a game-high 24 points for the Wolverines.

Schenevus will visit Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Tuesday while Worcester will visit Edmeston/Morris on the same day.

Greene 60, Walton/Downsville 30 (Tuesday)

Greene cruised to a 60-30 win over Walton/Downsville Tuesday at home.

Mia Yahner led the way with 12 points while Lyla Biefeldt added nine points in the win.

Grace Walley had 11 points and seven rebounds while Abigail Wright added seven points in the loss.

Greene will visit Sidney Thursday while Walton/Downsville falls to 4-2 and will host Bainbridge-Guilford Monday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Morris rode a red-hot offensive performance to defeat Sharon Springs 94-45 on the road Wednesday.

Morris jumped out to a 26-3 lead in the first quarter and never let up from there.

Tiger Ross led the Mustangs with 28 points while Ryan Murphy scored 23, Keegan Fraser scored 15 and Ty Turner had 10 in the win.

Mike Cashman had 20 points for Sharon Springs while Ethan Mickel added 19 in the loss.

Morris will host the Ray Clement Tournament Thursday while Sharon Springs will visit Middleburgh Monday.

Charlotte Valley 63, Margaretville 40The Charlotte Valley boys defeated Margaretville 63-40 Wednesday at home.

Ezra Ontl led the Wildcats with 18 points while Ethan Barrett had 14 points and 14 rebounds and Trevor Waid added 11 points and nine assists in the win.

Hunter Balcom and Connor Wayman each scored 12 points for Margaretville.

Charlotte Valley will host Windham-Ashland-Jewett Friday.
