UCF coach Gus Malzahn fine after car accident in Alabama

UCF coach Gus Malzahn is OK after he was involved in a car accident on Monday night in Auburn, Alabama, according to Alabama.com.

Malzahn was not injured in the crash, but a person driving a motorcycle was flown to a trauma center in critical condition. According to WRBL, the motorcyclist is expected to recover.

Specifics surrounding the crash are not yet known. It is still under investigation.

Malzahn was in Auburn to be with his wife, Kristi, who was in town to help with her mother. Kristi’s father, Wesley Otwell, died last month. The UCF athletic department confirmed in a statement that Malzahn was not injured, and that they were aware of the incident.

Malzahn wrapped up his first season with UCF last fall, where he went 9-4 and picked up a win over Florida in the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl. He previously spent eight years at Auburn, where he compiled a 68-35 overall record.

UCF is currently holding spring practice. Malzahn is expected to rejoin the team on Thursday, according to Alabama.com.
