U.S. Open local qualifying to return to Robert Trent Jones Silver Lakes Course on May 9

U.S. Open golf is coming back to the Gadsden area, at least the first stage of qualifying is returning to the Robert Trent Jones, Silver Lake Course.

The tournament will be played on May 9th on the Heartbreaker and Backbreaker courses. The top finishers will move on to the final stages of qualifying later that month or early June, but it is unknown how many spots will be moving on from the Gadsden qualifier. It is the only local qualifier being played in Alabama out of the 109 sites across the United States, Canada, England and Japan.

"We are very grateful to have a U.S. Open local qualifier this year," staff professional Jack Sims told the Gadsden Times. "We have had it the last few years and we look forward to having a great opportunity for great golfers to come play our facility."

This year's U.S. Open will be the 124th event and will be played at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club No. 2 course in Pinehurst, N.C. It will be played from June 13-16th. For players looking to qualify you must be either a professional or hold a Handicap Index over under 0.4.

Silver Lakes features three nine-hole courses that can be paired to create a full 18-hole round. It is located south of Gadsden off of US-431 on the way to Jacksonville. It is the RTJ Trail's Gadsden/Anniston location.
