Tyler Hansbrough still believes Hubert Davis is the right guy for UNC

With the North Carolian Tar Heels’ struggles this season, the spotlight has turned to head coach Hubert Davis. The Tar Heels could become the first team to miss the NCAA Tournament after being the AP preseason No. 1 team.

The next three games will be huge for the Tar Heels, beginning on Saturday by hosting Virginia.

There has been some criticism about Davis from the fans, national media and more this season. But one UNC legend is saying pump the breaks on talk of Davis being on the hot seat.

Tyler Hansbrough was on the Field of 68 podcast and was asked if Davis was still the right guy for the UNC program. His answer supported Davis and told fans to just relax a bit:

“Absolutely. I don’t think what’s happened this year is on Hubert at all,” Hansbrough said. “It’s way too early to start questioning that”

Hansbrough does have a point. These players also aren’t Davis’ recruits and we won’t see the impact of that until the 2023 and 2024 classes get on campus in the next two years. The 2024 class right now is the No. 1 class in the cycle so far.

Plus, there’s still time for this team to turn it around. The frustrations are totally reasonable as well, but until this team is eliminated, there’s always a shot.

Let’s hope Davis and his staff can get this thing on the right track and that begins on Saturday.
