Twitter reacts to Justin Herbert’s mega contract extension with Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is not a fan of being in the spotlight, but he had a chance to shine on Tuesday afternoon. He signed a massive $262.5 million contract extension that ties him to the team through 2029.
Herbert is the latest QB in the NFL to sign a mega five-year deal, and he is now among the highest-paid players in the league. That makes sense: Herbert has grown into one of the most talented passers in the NFL, even though the playoff success has eluded him in his three years since leaving the Oregon Ducks.
However, with Kellen Moore going to Los Angeles as the new offensive coordinator, there is a hope that situation will turn around. Regardless of the outcome, there was some celebration from Chargers, Ducks, and NFL fans at large on Tuesday as the contract news was announced. Here are some of the best reactions.
Justin Herbert is now the highest-paid QB in NFL hisotry in terms of new money average annual value at $52.5M per season.
He becomes the third QB just this offseason (Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson) to become the highest-paid QB ever. https://t.co/MLRf5YWsXr

Patrick Mahomes signed a $450,000,000 deal with $63M fully guaranteed (14%)
3 years later it looks like one of the most team-friendly QB deals in recent memory
that's how absurd Patrick Mahomes is

Chargers expressed confidence throughout the process that it was only a matter of WHEN not IF they got a deal done with Justin Herbert. Herbert gets a deal just north of Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson, but likely most important to him, puts all this behind him and turns to ball.

You get a contract like Justin Herbert just got when you are off to one of the best starts ever by a QB:
Herbert needs 2,330 passing yards and 43 offensive TDs to set each record for a player’s first 4 seasons
(Herbert: 14,089 passing yards, 102 TDs from 2020-22)— James Palmer (@JamesPalmerTV) July 25, 2023
Hell of a bounce back when you factor in these college games too #GoDucks https://t.co/AWuEE3DbZQ pic.twitter.com/hy83nogFfa
