Twitter reaction to the 2023 UNC football spring game
As the UNC football program continues preparation for the 2023 season, it hosted its annual spring game on Saturday. The game wrapped up spring practices for the Tar Heels and fans got an early look at this team and what could be.
While it’s just a scrimmage, it’s nice to see how the new roster connects early in spring. Plus, this will be the last time we see the team for a few months until players return for practice in late summer.
The day went pretty much as expected: Quarterback Drake Maye was the highlight.
Maye returns after putting up a historic season a year ago and now he has some new weapons. The quarterback connected with those new targets as Nate McCollum and Devontez Walker both caught touchdown passes.
On the other side of the ball, the defense is expected to be better after some struggles last season. If that happens, it should lead to good things overall for the Tar Heels.

Unofficially, we’ve got Drake Maye 10 of 13 passing for 159 yards and two TDs after four series. TD passes of 35 yards to Tez Walker and 13 yards to Nate McCollum. Both transfer WRs with TD catches so far.

On fourth down, Drake Maye 13-yard TD pass to transfer WR Nate McCollum, who goes down to grab a sliding catch nearly off the top of the field turf. Throw was low and behind him, but McCollum came up with a highlight reel type of catch.
