Tuesday's prep highlights: Spartans open season in big way

In boys' basketball

Toyota of Danville Classic

Oakwood 61, St. Theresa 57. The Comets (6-0) eked out a tournament win in St. Joseph to stay undefeated. Alec Harrison led the way with 20 points. Carsen Dudley scored 15, and Cort Vermillion added 10.

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 52, Cissna Park 37. The Panthers (1-1) had a balanced offensive attack against the Timberwolves (0-2) in St. Joseph, with double-digit scoring performances from Noah Steiner (16), Robert Boyd-Meents (11), Tyler Cole (10) and Luke Krumwiede (10). Cissna Park needed more than Dierks Neukomm's 22 points and Seth Walker's 10.

St. Joseph-Ogden 80, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 21. Twelve different players got in the scoring column for the host Spartans (1-0), led by Luke Landrus with 16, Ryker Lockhart with 12 and Logan Smith with 10. Connor Nettles paced the Knights (0-1) with seven points.

Nontournament

Cerro Gordo/Bement 50, Tri-City 35. Tyson Moore scored more than half of the points for the Broncos (3-2) with 27.

Heritage 64, Uni High 44. The Hawks (2-3) took care of the Illineks (0-6) for the second time in four days. Jacob Bensyl led Heritage with 17 points, and Rylan White and Brennan Struck each had 12. Uni High's Tristen Ting led all scorers with 21.

Hoopeston Area 69, Fisher 41. Owen Root led the host Cornjerkers (3-2) with 22 points, followed by Mason Rush with 11, Wyatt Eisenmann with 10 and Kendrick Sigerill with nine. Despite the loss, the Bunnies (1-4) got 13 points from Drayton Lutz and 12 from Ryan Hopkins.

LeRoy 50, Argenta-Oreana 43. Big games from Andrew Fleming (17 points), Jasper Tarr (12) and Sam Edmundson (12) led the Panthers (2-2) to the win. Damian Gude led the Bombers (3-2) with nine points, and Chase Logue had eight.

Peoria Richwoods 76, Champaign Central 58. The Maroons (3-2) had a tough time slowing down Richwoods, but they still had some solid individual performances. David Riley paced the team with 17 points. Chris Bush had 13 points, and Aidyn Beck added 10.

Prairie Central 89, Dwight 36. The Hawks' high-scoring output saw big performances from Levi Goad and Tyler Curl, each with 17 points, and Gage Steidinger and Talen Steidinger, both of whom had 11 points in the win, for Prairie Central (4-1).

Ridgeview 45, Iroquois West 41. The Mustangs (2-2) squeaked out a road win thanks in large part to Cole Kennedy's 16 points, Nathan Donaldson's 11 and Tanner Maupin's 10. Garrett Tammen led the Raiders (1-4) with 12 points and six rebounds, and Jace Pankey added 11 points and 11 boards. Tyler Read only scored one point, but he pulled down 10 rebounds.

Riverton 49, Monticello 43. The Sages (1-1) took their first loss of the season. Trey Welter led the scoring effort with 13 points, followed by Maddux Quick with nine. Ike Young was big on the glass, pulling down 12 rebounds.

Sullivan 57, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 39. The Redskins improved to 4-0 on the season behind balanced scoring.

Tuscola 69, Villa Grove 43. Kam Sweetnam led the way for the Warriors (2-0) with 18 points. Logan Kurtz had 13 points and six steals. Jordan Quinn recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Sawyer Woodard was right there with him at 10 points and nine rebounds. Lukas Shadwick led the Blue Devils (4-2) with 16 points, and Kyler Williams added 10.

Unity 69, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 61. A 30-point game from Dalton O'Neill paced the Rockets (1-0) to a tight season-opening win. Henry Thomas had 13 points, and Andrew Thomas added 10. Keison Peoples' 21 points and Ayden Ingram's 17 led the Blue Devils (4-1) in their first loss of the year.

Westville 59, Tri-County 29. The host Tigers (2-0) had a balanced night offensively, getting 13 points from Drew Wichtowski, 11 apiece from Easton Barney and Matthew Darling and 10 from Cameron Steinbaugh. Garrett Pollock led the Titans (2-4) with seven points.

In girls' basketball

Bloomington Central Catholic 78, Mahomet-Seymour 71. The Bulldogs (3-4) took a close road loss despite 24 points from Kylie Waldinger and 10 apiece from Sidney Young and Reese Gallier.

Cissna Park 46, Unity 26. Addison Lucht's 12 points and Sophie Duis' nine helped the Timberwolves (4-2) to a win over the Rockets (3-3).

Georgetown-Ridge Farm 38, Chrisman 18. The Buffaloes (4-3) snapped their three-game losing streak thanks to 14 points from Sydney Spesard. Taylor Jones and Bailey Presslor each had seven points for the Cardinals (1-5), now on a four-game skid.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 57, St. Thomas More 49. The Falcons (5-0) stayed undefeated on the young season with a competitive win over the Sabers (3-2). Lily Sizemore led GCMS with 20 points, followed by Cally Kroon with nine, Mallory Rosendahl with eight and Mindy Brown with seven. Audrey Gooding and Grace Dimoke led STM with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Maroa-Forsyth 53, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 27. The Knights (3-2) couldn't win their third game in a row, but they did get a 14-point performance out of Claire Seal.

St. Teresa 48, Sullivan 39. Fourteen points from Shae Ellis and another 13 from Kiley Dyer wasn't enough for the Redskins (1-3) to pick up a road win.

Tri-County 50, Marshall 37. The Titans improved to 6-0 with a home win on the back of Josie Armstrong's 15 points.
