Veteran outfielder/first baseman Trey Mancini hit a home run Thursday night on the second pitch he faced in his first at-bat for the Louisville Bats, the Cincinnati Reds' Triple-A affiliate.

Mancini, who batted second and was the designated hitter, doubled in his second at-bat of the Bats' 6-5 win against the Toledo Mud Hens, and hit his second homer of the game in the 8th.

Mancini was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs in his Louisville debut.

Mancini, released by the Chicago Cubs in early August, was playing in a game for the first time since the Cubs' 6-5 loss to the Reds July 31.

The Enquirer's Gordon Wittenmyer confirmed Wednesday night that the Reds signed Mancini to a minor-league deal.

In 2020, Mancini underwent successful surgery to remove a malignant tumor in his colon. He missed the entire pandemic-shortened season to treat his Stage 3 colon cancer with chemotherapy.

He hit .255 with 21 homers and 71 RBIs in 616 plate appearances for the Baltimore Orioles the following season.

In 2022, the Orioles traded Mancini to the Houston Astros. He hit .176 in 186 PAs for Houston and signed as a free agent with the Cubs in January.

Mancini hit .234 with four homers in 263 PAs before the Cubs designated him for assignment.
