How did Ethan Travis and Nariho blitz CSW on the road?

CRANSTON — Ethan Travis raced from one end of the ice to the other and scored, leaving just 22 seconds on the clock.

But there was still enough time for Connor Gillmore.

Narragansett/Chariho won the faceoff following Travis’ goal and Gillmore converted a rebound, off a pad save, with a goal from the crease as the horn sounded.

The Gulls doubled-up Cranston/Scituate/Woonsocket boys hockey at the end of the first period and then blitzed CSW in the third stanza for a 6-2 triumph on Friday night.

Travis registered a hat trick as Nariho (7-3-1) improved its Division II standings with five games left in the regular season.

“I think that was one of our best plays, our biggest momentum shifter,” Gillmore said of the first-period finish.

Here's more on how the Gulls pulled together a signature team win:

Travis shines in team win

Travis’ first goal came while shorthanded. The puck was misplayed by CSW and the speedy sophomore outraced the defense for possession and the tally followed just a minute into regulation.

The second goal? Well, that was brilliant.

Travis, racing up the left side, beat everyone before flicking a shot past the CSW goalie to break a 1-1 tie.

“He's probably our best player,” Gillmore said of Travis. “He has most of our points, gets a goal at least every game and has multiple hat tricks. And he’s a great guy in the locker room, too.”

His third goal with 3:46 left in regulation epitomized the night for the Gulls.

Mason Kosiorek fed Travis through the neutral zone in stride for a breakaway that the forward buried for the 6-2 advantage.

Nariho's Mason Campbell had 26 saves on Friday night.

“It's a good team win,” said Travis, who attends Narragansett High. “It's not one guy. We're all pounding away. And there’s a lot of new people scoring, too. We're getting a lot of new people stepping up.”

Mason Campbell made 26 saves, including 11 in the third period, as Nariho killed five penalties.

“The boys worked hard and they played for each other,” Gulls’ coach Dave Cannon said. “I think that was one of the first times we really saw them firing on all sides of the game.”

Timely goal keeps Gulls ahead

Before Nariho closed the door with a pair of goals with less than five minutes left in regulation, CSW cut its deficit to 3-2.

From behind the net, Justin Drohen found an open Devin DeAngelis at the crease for a goal with 12:07 left in the third period.

But the Gulls answered a minute later as Brady Grislis, another sophomore, blasted one in while on the power play from just inside the blue line.

“He dangled a guy and then went top shelf,” Gillmore said. “It felt great for me, too, because I missed that shot before, and I think it was a great momentum shifter for the whole team, too.”

Gillmore scored his second goal of the contest with 5:30 remaining in regulation.

“We had some goal scorers today that showed their poise,” Cannon said. “They had some savvy and some patience. They were looking, and not just trying to get it on net, but in the back of it.”

Freshman Jacob Bovay scored CSW’s first goal midway through the first period. Jaedon Case made 24 saves.
