Top transfer portal target to announce destination at months end

One of the top transfer portal targets for the Nebraska Cornhuskers this offseason has posted to social media that he will announce his transfer decision by the end of the month. Defensive End Ochaun Mathis was a guest at the Nebraska spring game last week, but the Huskers face stiff conversation for former Horned Frog defensive lineman. On top of Nebraska, Mathis’ has announced four other possible landing spots, including Ole Miss, Penn State, Texas, and USC.

Last year Mathis had 45 tackles, was tied for the team lead with 4.0 sacks, and placed second with 7.0 tackles for loss. He was also a 2021 selection second-team All-Big 12. The defensive end chose TCU from high school over Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech. Mathis described his visit to “Husker Nation,” as he called it “unbelievable.” The Husker defensive line was thin this spring, and Mathis would instantly provide some star power to a position group looking to add some depth from the transfer portal since signing day.  Nebraska faces stiff competition, though, from the Longhorns as the former Head Coach of the Horned Frogs, Gary Patterson is now on the Steve Sarkisian’s staff as a special assistant to the head coach. Everyone is anxiously awaiting the end of the month, no matter the outcome.
