Top Somerset County baseball, softball, tennis, track and field performers for March 25-30

Thursday

LHAC winter sports all-stars

Somerset's Eve Housley (girls' basketball west division), Rowan Holmes (wrestling, 215 pounds), and Hope Miller (second team 50 freestyle swimming) were named Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference winter sports all-stars.

Baseball

Berlin Brothersvalley 8, Shanksville-Stonycreek 2: Pace Prosser, Cale Kosic, and Nick Koval each had two hits to lead the Mountaineers past the Vikings.

Parker Black and Koval combined to give up three hits and strike out seven.

Grant Boozer had two hits and struck out nine over six innings for Shanksville.

Somerset 12, Chestnut Ridge 0 (6): Braeden Flower pitched a no-hitter, striking out 11 Lions in a victory for the Golden Eagles.

Carter Dunmyer recorded three hits and four RBIs. Callen Miller provided two hits, including a home run, two RBIs and a run while Flower added a pair of hits.

Softball

Bedford 15, Somerset 8: Savannah Landis provided three hits for the Golden Eagles in a setback to the Bisons.

Riley Wiencek homered and Gianna Harris tripled for Somerset.

Rockwood 15, United 11: Sydney Beals provided three hits, an RBI and scored two runs to propel the Rockets past the Lions.

Brooke Snyder, Miley Pletcher and Paelyn Sanner each had two hits for Rockwood. Snyder and Pletcher each drove in a pair of runs.

Tennis

Somerset 4, Richland 1: Kai Petrosky and Tanner Wassilchalk earned victories in singles for the Golden Eagles in a triumph over the Rams.

Josiah Antram and Declan Egal as well as the team of Ben Bowers and Isaac St. Clair won in doubles.

Wednesday

Baseball

North Star 11, Williamsburg 0: Glendon Griffith produced three hits and three RBIs as the Cougars sank the Pirates.

Nolan Weible recorded three hits while Andy Retassie, Cayden Turner, Braden Livingston and Austin Orris each had a pair. Orris drove in two runs as well. Vance Kimmel struck out nine over five innings.

Conemaugh Township 13, West Shamokin 3 (5): Larry Weaver delivered two hits, including a home run, three RBIs and scored three runs to propel Conemaugh Township to a win.

D.J. Bambino provided three hits and an RBI, while Zack Petree, Colin Dinyar and Brennan Lohr each had two hits and two RBIs. Luke Weber allowed two hits, three runs and struck out seven in a complete game.

Somerset 12, Bedford 4: Braeden Flower tallied two hits, three RBIs and scored three runs to lift the Golden Eagles over the Bisons.

Zane Hagans contributed two hits, two RBIs and two runs for Somerset. Garrett Reese pitched three innings and allowed one earned run to pick up the win.

McConnellsburg 10, Windber 0 (5): Andrew Scalia and Mason Horner each had a hit for the Ramblers in a setback to the Spartans.

Everett 10, Berlin Brothersvalley 0 (5): Levi Leonard recorded the lone hit for the Mountaineers in a setback to the Warriors.

Blacklick Valley 15, Turkeyfoot Valley 0 (4): Zack Ryan had a hit for the Rams in a loss to the Vikings.

Softball

Windber 19, Williamsburg 2 (4): Summer Campbell went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBIs for the Ramblers in a romp of the Pirates.

Nici Costlow and Angel James each had four hits and two RBIs while Maggie Manippo added three hits and two RBIs. Layla Gray and Emma Kelly each had two hits and three RBIs.

Meyersdale 16, Northern Bedford County 0 (4): Laurel Daniels racked up three hits, including a home run, six RBIs and a run scored in a commanding win.

Izabella Donaldson also tallied three hits, including a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored while Marcella Dupre added two hits, two RBIs and three runs. Donaldson allowed one hit and struck out eight in three innings.

West Shamokin 22, Conemaugh Township 0 (3): Conemaugh Township was blanked by the Wolves.

Berlin drops DH to Everett: The Mountaineers suffered a 10-0 and 13-4 setback to the defending PIAA Class 2A champs.

Track and field

Windber sweeps Southern Fulton: The Windber girls defeated Southern Fulton 125-19.

Rachel Russo (800, 1600 and 3200), Mason Edwards (pole vault, high jump), Autumn Walz (300 hurdles, long jump), and Ariana Hill (100 dash and two winning relays) all captured victories.

The Windber boys bested Southern Fulton 130-18.

Colin Marx (100, 200 dash), Joe McKelvey (1600, 3200), Grady Klosky (long jump, triple jump), Lukas Betcher (shot put, javelin) earned wins.

Tuesday

Baseball

Conemaugh Township 20, Homer-Center 0 (5): Luke Weber contributed two hits and five RBIs for Conemaugh Township in a romp of Homer-Center.

Colin Dinyar and Brennan Lohr combined for three hits and six RBIs. Zack Petree scored four runs. Luke Haight allowed three hits, three walks and struck out nine.

Softball

Somerset 17, Westmont Hilltop 11: Belle Martin had two hits, including a grand slam and five RBIs to lift the Golden Eagles over the Hilltoppers.

Riley Wiencek and Savannah Landis each recorded three hits while Elly Fletcher added two for Somerset. Brooklynn Thomas allowed six hits to earn the win in the circle.

Tennis

Tussey Mountain 5, Windber 0: The Ramblers were blanked by the Titans.

Baseball

Conemaugh Township 6, River Valley 1: Luke Haight hit a grand slam to propel Conemaugh Township to a victory.

D.J. Bambino tallied two hits and scored two runs for Conemaugh Township. Larry Weaver allowed one run on four hits, three walks and struck out five over four innings to earn the win.

Berlin Brothersvalley 8, Meyersdale 4: Craig Jarvis recorded three hits and two RBIs for the Mountaineers, who doubled up the Red Raiders.

Parker Black drove in two runs while Sam Speicher had a hit and scored three times for Berlin.

Spencer Whitfield and Lars Murray each had two hits for Meyersdale.

Windber 12, Rockwood 2 (5): Lucas Rummel went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored to lift the Ramblers over the Rockets.

Rummel also picked up the win on the mound. Logan Serenko tallied two hits, two runs and an RBI for Windber.

Davis Bruening doubled in a run for Rockwood.

Somerset 12, Westmont Hilltop 2 (6): Kahne Foltz provided two hits, four RBIs and scored three runs for the Golden Eagles in a walloping of the Hilltoppers.

Simon McGuire and Carter Dunmyer each contributed two hits and an RBI for Somerset. Braeden Flower pitched four innings of two-hit ball to earn the win. He struck out seven and did not allow a run.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 7, Hancock 1: Jordan Young went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored runs for the Vikings in a non-conference triumph.

Grant Boozer struck out 12 over five innings for Shanksville.

McConnellsburg 5, North Star 1: Nate Orris recorded a hit and an RBI for the Cougars in a setback to the Spartans.

Fort Hill 26, Turkeyfoot Valley 1 (3): Bryce Nicholson recorded an RBI for the Rams in a non-conference setback.

Softball

Meyersdale 4, Berlin Brothersvalley 2 (8): Laurel Daniels homered in extra innings for what proved to be the winning run as the Red Raiders rallied past the Mountaineers.

Kendell Donaldson had a hit and two RBIs. Marcella Dupre added two hits and Morgan Walters doubled in a run for Meyersdale. Izabella Donaldson allowed one earned run on two hits, three walks and struck out 16.

Shay Fochtman and Sydney Walker each drove in a run while Coral Prosser added a hit and a run for Berlin. Freshman Elena Ritchey allowed one earned run on six hits, one walk and struck out nine over 7⅓ innings of work.

Windber 10, Rockwood 4: Maggie Manippo and Kaylie Gaye each produced a hit and two RBIs to vault the Ramblers over the Rockets.

Nici Costlow and Summer Campbell each had two hits for Windber. Skylee Miller struck out seven.

Brooke Snyder, Paelyn Sanner and Sydney Beals each tallied two hits for Rockwood.

Tennis

Westmont Hilltop 3, Somerset 2: The Golden Eagles dropped a narrow setback to the Hilltoppers.

Tanner Wassilchalk earned a win in singles and the doubles team of Ben Bowers and Isaac St. Clair was victorious.
