Top high school performers (Oct. 16-21): Diman volleyball clinches a share of league title

FALL RIVER — It has been a heck of a season for the Diman girls volleyball.

Things got better for the Bengals on Wednesday.

Diman clinched a Mayflower League co-championship with Tri-County after the Bengals won three straight sets over Southeastern.

Vitoria DeOliveira had four aces and 25 digs for the Bengals (14-1). Kacie Lynch finished with five aces, two kills and 19 digs. Gloria Moniz had two aces, seven assists and Lindsey Moniz collected five aces, seven kills and 11 digs. Other contributors were Vanessa Melo (three aces, seven assists) and Courtney Boies (two aces, four kills, three blocks).

Here's a look at early results from this week:

Saturday

Boys Soccer

Nate Oliveira netted the go-ahead goal on an assist from Derek Camara in the 60th minute to lift the Raiders to a 2-1 win over Fairhaven. Shai Berman also netted a goal on an assist from Ben Miller. Evan Furtado collected the win in net for SBR (12-1-3).

Girls Soccer

Madeline Hargraves scored two goals and had an assist to lead the Hilltoppers to a 4-2 win over Dighton-Rehoboth on Senior Day. Julia Hargraves finished with a goal and an assist. Kaitlyn Coutu added a goal for Durfee (11-3-2).

Friday

Boys Soccer

Marcos Dutra Africano netted two goals and Nyzaiah Pacheco finished with a goal and two assists in the Wildcats' 4-0 win over Avon. Will Quinlan also scored a goal. Ryan Borges, Ben Cross, Lucas Ferreira, Zachary Lopes, Landen Novo and Ben Novo all contributed to a strong defensive effort. Goalkeeper Noah Amaral had three saves to earn his 10th shutout of the season for unbeaten Westport (14-0).

Luis DaSilva scored the game's lone goal for the Tritons in a win against Cape Cod Tech. Conrado Silva collected an assist on the play for Atlantis Charter (7-5-1).

Girls Soccer

Lily Veracka netted a pair of goals in the Wildcats's shutout win over South Shore Voc. Korynne Holden scored a goal and Harper Thibodeau netted her first varsity goal. Julia George and Emily Edwards each added assists. Morgan Pacheco got the win in net.

Sophia Ferreira, Olivia Aguiar and Jayda Braga each scored a goal in the Tritons first win of the season against Cape Cod Tech. Julia Ribon picked up the shutout in net while Clara Dias also had a strong game for Atlantis Charter (1-9-2).

Lindsey Moniz finished with six aces, 10 kills and seven digs to pace the Bengals to a 3-0 win over Old Colony. Vitoria DeOliveira had three aces and 12 digs while Kacie Lynch finished with two aces, seven kills and 11 digs.Gloria Moniz chipped in with 10 aces and 12 assists. Vanessa Melo (two aces, six assists and five digs) andCourtney Boies (two aces, two kills and blocks) also contributed for Diman (15-1) in the win.

Field Hockey

Megan Smith scored the lone goal for the Cardinals in their 1-1 tie with Dighton-Rehoboth. Goalie Avery Plante had four saves in net. Midfielder Cat Rosseau had a solid game for Case (12-0-1).

Thursday

Boys Soccer

Ben Novo scored a pair of goals in the Wildcats' 6-0 win over Atlantis Charter. Will Quinlan, Nyzaiah Pacheco, Zachary Lopes, and Carter Couto also scored goals. Will Quinlan and Pacheco also had assists. Noah Amaral had three saves in net for the shutout.

Girls Soccer

Julia Hargraves scored four goals while Kaitlyn Coutu and Madeline Hargraves each added a pair of goals and four assists in the Hilltoppers' 8-0 win over New Bedford. Durfee (10-3-2) has not lost a game since Sept. 16, including outscoring their opponents, 37-5 in 11 games.

Lily Veracka, Harper Thibodeau, Sophia Nickelson and Bailey Hart each played well for the Wildcats (9-5) in Blue Hills' 4-0 victory.

Field Hockey

The Cardinals field hockey team remained unbeaten after beating Westport at home, 3-1. Megan Smith scored two for Case (12-0). Jenea Porras also netted a goal. Cat Rosseau, Maeve Richarson and Emma Bouchard each finished with assists. Goalie Avery Plante had six saves in net. Isabella Babb scored the lone goal for the Wildcats (10-4) off a pass from Avery Avila.

Golf

Despite the ninth place finish, the Cardinals' Ryan Farrell finished the South Coast Conference tournament in sixth place out of 60 golfers, shooting an 83.

Wednesday

Boys Soccer

Nicolas Scanlon and Mason Deneault each scored a pair of goals for the Raiders in their 5-0 win over Seekonk. Derrick Camara also had a goal and an assist. Cam Rose chipped in with a pair of assists while Brayden Dorego and Shai Berman each finished with an assist. Evan Furtado got the win in net for SBR (10-1-3).

Girls Soccer

Goalkeeper Maddie Willis had over 10 saves to lift the Raiders past Seekonk, 4-2. Lauren Roosa also was a factor in the scoring for SBR (7-5-1).

Field Hockey

Maura Kennedy chipped in two goals and an assist to help lead the Raiders past West Bridgewater. Ryan Crook had two goals and an assist while Julie Pacheco scored a pair of goals. Karissa Albin had a goal and three assists. Tatum Swanson finished with a goal and two assists while Kenzie Heroux added a goal for SBR (14-0-1). Sophia Valcourt had two saves in net.

Girls Volleyball

Victoria Gomes had a pair of kills and an ace for the Hilltoppers in Dartmouth's 3-0 win.

Zoey Sylvain finished with 11 assists, 12 service points, seven aces, three kills and two blocks to lead the Wildcats over Holbrook. Jayda Pequita added 10 digs, 10 service points and four aces. Sarah Perry contributed nine kills, 13 service points, four aces, and a block. Taliyah Raiche had eight service points and four aces for Westport (5-10).

Abigail Vieira had six kills, 10 digs and a block to help lead the Raiders to a 3-0 Senior Night win over Seekonk. Annabella Karpicz had 10 kills and seven digs while Kayla Caruso had 12 assists, three kills and four digs. Anya Kanalski finished with four kills, a dig and three blocks.

Jayna Surrell had 24 assists, including her 500th on the season to lead the Cardinals to a 3-0 win over Fairhaven. Hannah Storm finished with12 kills while Madilyn Botelho added nine kills, 15 digs, and three aces. Other contributors were Alanna Martinez (five kills), Ava Silva (four blocks), Novalee Andree (four aces) and Emma Rodrigues (three service points) for Case (13-4).

Tuesday

Boys Soccer

Lens Boursiquot and Patrick Barros each scored a goal in the Hilltoppers 2-2 tie with Dartmouth. Kaua Damas chipped in with a pair of assists for Durfee (6-3-4).

Zachary Lopes had a pair of goals to help the undefeated Wildcats clinch the MAC Comprehensive Division with a 7-0 win over Holbrook. Other goal scorers for Westport (12-0) were Marcos Dutra Africano, Carter Couto, Will Quinlan, Tommy Bernard and Landen Novo. Nyzaiah Pacheco chipped in with two assists. Noah Amaral pick up his eighth shutout of the season.

Girls Soccer

The Hilltoppers tied their game with league opponent New Bedford, 1-1.

Lily Veracka scored the Wildcats' lone goal on an assist by Julia George in Holbrook's 4-1 win. Westport falls to 9-4 on the season.

Field Hockey

Karissa Albin netted a pair of goals and had three assists in the Raiders' 6-0 win over Seekonk. Julie Pacheco chipped in with two goals while Maura Kennedy and Ryan Crook each had a goal and an assist. Ella Vaught finished with an assist and Sophia Valcourt had two saves in net.

Megan Smith netted four goals and assisted on four others to help the unbeaten Cardinals to a 8-0 win over Fairhaven. Maeve Richardson and Jenea Porras also chipped in with a pair of goals in the win for Case (11-0). Emma Bouchard and Madelyn Duquette each added an assist. Avery Plante got the shutout in net after making two saves.

Golf

The Hilltoppers celebrated Senior Day with a 110-81 win over Brockton. Brady Sullivan led all scorers for Durfee (8-5-1) with a 37. Devin Viera shot 38 while Jack Fitzgerald (42) and Dan Matuszek (46) finished strong. Dylan Estrella and Gideon Richard also contributed points to the victory.

Girls Volleyball

Kailany Ortiz-Garcia (six) and Lizbeth Perez (four) combined for 10 aces in the Tritons' 3-2 win against Calvary Chapel. Laryssa De Souza had five kills while Islanett Morales and Anastasia Giarrusso contributed four and two kills, respectively. Angelina Swenson scored two free ball kills for Atantis Charter (5-6).

Boys Cross Country

Despite a top finish by Cashton Richard (18:54), the Bengals dropped their first loss of the season to Southeastern. Macauley Crossman (19:49), Izayah Summers (20:45), Eric Valcourt (21:09), Ben Banister (21:10), Liam Goff (21:15) and Dominick Alves (21:34) each ran well for Diman (4-1).

Girls Cross Country

Alexah Pedder finished in third place (23:24) to help the Bengals beat Southeastern, 26-31. Other top runners for Diman (3-2) were Joleah Rivera (23:29), Nya Martinez (24:39), Emma Foley (25:10), Lylah Thibeault (25:36), Ayda Dubreuil (25:48) and Nicole Mota (25:54).

Monday

Boys Soccer

Nicolas Scanlon banged home a penalty kick in the 27th minute to lift the Raiders to a 1-0 win over Old Rochester. Evan Furtado had five saves in net for SBR (10-3-1).

Girls Soccer

Jayda Braga scored her fifth goal of the season as the Tritons tied their game 2-2 with Cape Cod Tech. Sophia Ferreira added her second goal of the season for Atlantis Charter (0-8-2).

Field Hockey

Isabella Babb scored in the first five minutes of the game as the Wildcats beat St. John Paul II, 3-0. Avery Avila and Emma Bessette each scored a goal for Westport (10-2). Makayla Grace had two assists and Hannah Abrams stopped two shots on net.

Golf

All eight golfers were in the 40s for the first time this year for the Raiders in their 99-77 Stapleford scoring system win over Durfee. Alex Crook played well at the top of the lineup and Cole Souza shot a 44. Jack Rothwell, Mason Sullivan, Max Hansen, and Joe Ramos all played well in the middle of the lineup.

Alex Crook shot 39 and Brady Raymond finished with a 41 — both season lows in the Raiders' 100-77 Stapleford scoring system win on Oct. 13. Crook qualified for the state sectional tournament for SBR (4-10) at Easton Country Club on Oct. 24.

Girls Volleyball

Hannah Storm led the attack for the Cardinals with 14 kills and seven aces in a 3-1 win over West Bridgewater. Madilyn Botelho had eight kills while Alanna Martinez and Ava Silva had five and three kills, respectively for Case (12-4). Jayna Surrell continued her amazing season with 32 assists. Novalee Andree played great in the back row with nine digs and four aces.

Samantha Rodrigues had 11 blocks and two kills for the Wildcats in Tri-County's 3-1 win. Jayda Pequita had 11 digs and nine service points while Sarah Perry finished with five kills, a block, six service points and two aces for Westport (4-10).
