Tommy DeVito shows up at Morristown pizzeria, makes peace after fees controversy

Giants quarterback Tom DeVito and his agent stopped by Morristown's Coniglio's Old Fashioned restaurant on Tuesday to clear the air after a few tumultuous days that followed a dust-up over how much dough DeVito, North Jersey's rookie sensation, would make from an appearance.

Nino Coniglio, owner of the highly regarded pizzeria and bakery, said the Tuesday afternoon meeting ended with all sides making peace.

"We broke bread together," Coniglio said. "They contacted me and said they were mortified by the whole situation."

They asked what they could do to make things right, he said.

"These are stand up guys. Gentlemen." Coniglio said.

Sean Salci, a marketing agent for DeVito, afterwards posted a photo of the quarterback eating a pizza with the words "Nothing but love."

Coniglio said they met for about an hour where Coniglio made him some cutlet sandwiches and showed him how to make an old-fashioned soda.

"I served him his first egg cream," Conigilio said. "He's too young to know about them. Heck, I am too young to know about them but I had a grandfather who did."

At the conclusion of the meeting, Coniglio said DeVito and Salci agreed to a charity appearance, where DeVito will sign a 100 autographs and Coniglio will sell a 100 cutlet sandwiches.

"One hundred percent – no agent fees, food costs or anything else will be deducted ‒ of what's raised will go toward the Knights of Columbus charities to benefit battered women and homeless veterans," he said. "If it winds up being $10,000, it all goes."

They still have to figure on a day, but it will probably occur sometime in January, Coniglio said.

The dust up

The controversy centered around how much DeVito would be made for making an appearance at the pizzeria to sign autographs.

Coniglio's Old Fashioned, in an Instagram post Sunday, said DeVito was originally set to visit the restaurant Tuesday to meet fans and sign autographs.

However, DeVito's agent, Sean Stellato, reportedly informed ownership following the Packers win − New York's third victory in a row − that the quarterback's appearance fee had doubled from $10,000 to $20,000.

He owns numerous pizza places in New York as well as Coniglio's Old Fashioned, which opened in Morristown on Halloween 2022. Although a native of Bridgewater, he cut his teeth making pizza in his teens working in Brooklyn, expanded to Manhattan and most recently Morristown.
