Titans’ Roger McCreary unsure what his role will be
The Tennessee Titans continued their string of surprising moves during the 2022 NFL draft when they selected cornerback Roger McCreary in the second round on Friday night.
We never ruled out the Titans taking a cornerback as an insurance policy for Caleb Farley, but not before the team addressed its other bigger needs, like at tight end, guard, and tackle.
However, general manager Jon Robinson has managed to throws us yet another curveball just one day after he unexpectedly traded wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Shortly after being drafted, McCreary met with the Titans’ media and had this to say about going to Tennessee:
“I went on a visit to the Titans, and I love everything about Nashville, just the coaches and everything,” McCreary said on a conference call, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “They talked about their system, and I really feel like I can fit in. That’s where I was hoping, when the pick came, that I would be one of their choices. I’m just happy that they chose me.”
McCreary isn’t exactly sure what his role will be (welcome to the club), but did go into detail about what he brings to the table.

“My skill set, I feel like I can come in and do great with my skill set,” he said. “I am a corner who can play man, I can play zone, too, and I know I can play nickel, too, and I can go out to the corner. Going into the system, (if) they want me to play at both positions I look forward to playing both positions.
“(The Titans) haven’t told me my exact role, they are just happy they chose me because of the player I am, the corner that I am, a physical guy who can adjust to the system. They love everything about me, and they know that I am going to come in and do great.”
McCreary also had high praise for Tennessee’s first-round pick, wide receiver Treylon Burks, per John Glennon of Sports Illustrated.
“A lot of people asked me who was one of the (top) receivers. I feel like a lot of people (are) sleeping on Treylon Burks because that guy there — just his size, he can do a lot,” McCreary said. He is not a slow guy. He can run. He’s quick. He can jump.”
