Titans keep rolling, top Saints 23-21: Everything we know

The Tennessee Titans are now 2-0 since the injury to Derrick Henry and have won six straight games after beating the New Orleans Saints in Week 10 at Nissan Stadium, 23-21.

It wasn’t a pretty effort for the offense by any stretch, but the unit did enough to complement a Titans defense that played well once again and made some big stops throughout the game. Tennessee was also added by two big extra point misses by the Saints.

With the victory, the Titans improve to 8-2 on the season and have opened up a bigger lead over the Baltimore Ravens, who came into this week as the No. 2 seed but lost on “Thursday Night Football” to the Miami Dolphins.

The Titans were clinging to a 23-21 lead late in the fourth quarter and needed to make a stop on a two-point conversion after the Saints scored a touchdown to bring themselves to within two points.

After a false start that pushed the Saints back five yards, making the attempt more difficult, the Titans made the stop on a Trevor Siemian pass. After recovering the onside kick, the Titans kneeled it home.

-The Titans’ pass-rush dominated in the first half, notching four sacks, two of which came as a result of great coverage. However, the pass-rush was shut out in the second half.

-Tennessee’s secondary had seven pass break-ups but allowed a handful of plays of 20 yards or more, including a 46-yard reception. Chris Jackson was getting burnt all game long.

-The Titans failed to score on three of their five red zone trips but were able to come away with three points each time thanks to Randy Bullock. The Saints were 3-for-4 in the red zone.

-Tennessee’s defense held strong on third downs, as the Titans held the Saints to 5-for-12. Tennessee’s offense was worse, though, as it converted just 3-of-12 third-down attempts.

-The Titans’ offense moved the ball well in the first half but stalled in the final two quarters. The Titans had just 264 yards of total offense, including 198 through the air and 66 on the ground.

-D’Onta Foreman was once again the Titans’ best back. Granted, he tallied just 30 yards on the ground and 2.7 yards per carry, but his 39-yard reception on a screen pass set the Titans up for a field goal. Adrian Peterson had 2.6 yards per carry, and Jeremy McNichols had 1.8.

-The Saints would have tied the game up with their late fourth-quarter touchdown, but kicker Brian Johnson missed two crucial extra points earlier in the game.

-Bud Dupree was spotted going to the locker room with a trainer in the first quarter. He was later ruled out with an abdominal injury.

-Ola Adeniyi was shaken up on multiple occasions during the game. It turned out to be just cramps and he was able to return.

-Taylor Lewan was dealing with cramps during the third quarter. He would return on the following series, though.

-Nate Davis went to the locker room midway through the fourth quarter.

-Jeffery Simmons limped off the field in the fourth quarter. He would return a few plays later.

The Titans (8-2) just keep on winning and will look for their seventh in a row when they host the lowly Houston Texans (1-8), a team coming off a bye. Tennessee remains atop the conference by two games.
