Artesia's Swiss Army Knife Nye Estrada wins Current-Argus Prep Hero of the Week award

A familiar high school student-athlete claims another Carlsbad Current-Argus Prep Hero of the Week award after a two-hit, two RBIs performance against Santa Teresa in the opening round of the 4A state baseball playoffs.

Nye Estrada of Artesia High School won the trophy with 67% of the more than 4,600 votes cast this week.

Estrada contributed to Artesia’s 20-1 domination of Santa Teresa in the second game of a best-of-three series that allowed the Bulldogs to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

The Artesia senior is no stranger to winning the Prep Hero award, he won multiple times during the football season as the quarterback guided the Bulldogs to a state title.

Carlsbad’s Eloy Lopez finished second with 22% of the vote.
