Thursday's Mets-Marlins game suspended, will be made up Monday if necessary

Sep 28, 2023; New York City, New York, USA; New York Mets grounds crew roll out the tarp during a rain delay during the ninth inning against the Miami Marlins at Citi Field.

Thursday's game between the Mets and Miami Marlins was suspended after a three-hour rain delay.

The game will resume Monday at 1:10 PM if necessary.

With the Mets trailing the Marlins, 2-1, with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, the home plate umpire called for the tarp and the rain delay began.

Rafael Ortega broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the eight inning with an RBI single. Anthony Kay could not close out the game when he came in with a man on and one out. After a wild pitch allowed the tying run to advance to second base, Jazz Chisolm Jr. hit a double off the right-field wall to tie the game. Yuli Gurriel then lined a pinch-hit single to give Miami the 2-1 lead.

Thursday's suspension comes at a rough time for the Marlins, who are vying for a playoff spot. They entered the game tied for the final Wild Card Spot with the Chicago Cubs. With the Cubs losing to the Braves on Thursday, and the tie-breaker in favor of the Marlins, a win would've given them a lot of momentum heading into their final series of the regular season.

Miami has a three-game series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh from Friday through Sunday.
