Thunder: Josh Giddey could miss extended time with hip injury

Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault on Monday hinted that rookie Josh Giddey could miss extended time on the court due to right hip soreness.

Giddey has not played in each of the last two games for the Thunder due to the injury. The details are a bit scarce but Giddey first appeared on the injury report on Friday in a win over the Indiana Pacers and again on Monday in a loss to the Sacramento Kings.

“It could be a minute,” Daigneault said. “It is not day-to-day. We’re managing that.”

The sixth pick is averaging 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 54 games this season. He leads all first-year players in assists and recently became just the second rookie in history to record a triple-double in three consecutive games.

The Thunder have often taken a cautious approach with injuries in the past. They play again on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday this week so it is reasonable that Giddey could miss their upcoming stretch of games to recover from the injury.

Giddey had only missed five games this season prior to Friday.
