Three UND hockey players expected to be available this weekend after missing the exhibition
Oct. 6—UND held four injured players out of last Saturday's exhibition game against Bemidji State.
Three of them are expected to be available for the regular-season opener this weekend against Niagara.
Defenseman Cooper Moore, forward Carson Albrecht and goaltender Jakob Hellsten are on track to be ready to play if called upon, UND coach Brad Berry said at his weekly Wednesday press conference.
"There are a couple of guys who went through practice this week that look good as far as being available this weekend," Berry said.
Forward Brendan Budy, who has been dealing with a lower-body injury this summer and fall, will remain out.
Moore, a Detroit Red Wings draft pick, is the most experienced of the group. He played in 18 games as a rookie last season, tallying two goals and five points. He is more of an offensive minded defenseman.
Albrecht did not play as a freshman, but saw 13 games last season as a sophomore. He has yet to tally a collegiate point.
Hellsten, a rookie from Sweden, is expected to compete for the backup goaltender job behind starter Zach Driscoll.
Moore and Hellsten practiced leading up to the exhibition game last weekend, but the Fighting Hawks coaching staff held them out for precautionary reasons.
UND hosts Niagara at 7:07 p.m. Friday and 6:07 p.m. Saturday.
