The Detroit Red Wings signed winger Evgeny Svechnikov to a one-year contract extension on Sunday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but Svechnikov was scheduled to become a restricted free agent after the season. Svechnikov, who was the Red Wings’ first-round pick in 2015, missed the entire 2018-19 season with a knee injury but returned this year, recording 25 points in 51 AHL games with the Grand Rapid Griffins and no points in four games in Detroit.
Mahovlich made his NHL debut Dec. 28, 1965, earning an assist in a game at Boston. He struggled to be a consistent threat offensively, and spent time with the Wings and in the minor leagues. During the 1967-68 season, Frank Mahovlich, already a four-time Stanley Cup champion with the Leafs, joined the Wings.

Last week, defenseman Moritz Seider, the sixth overall pick in 2019, was loaned to the Mannheim Eagles of the top league in Germany, the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

Haven’t seen this for Veleno just yet but it’s still on the table. Fitzhugh became a hockey fan from listening to Ken Kal call Detroit Red Wings games.

Rabbitt of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division said in a statement about the charges. Zadinaberg shared this in yesterday’s QH, but I want to make sure everybody gets a chance to see it. The kind of things Ligotti is charged with are inhumane, cruel, and predatory.
My interests in hockey and film don’t often intersect, but with the NHL back on the ice, Universal Studios is putting out Red Penguins, a documentary by Gabe Polsky. I came into it thinking it would be about the great Russians who have played for the Pittsburgh Penguins: Alexei Kovalev, Sergei Zubov, Sergei Gonchar, Evgeni Malkin. Instead, it spins a fascinating story about the Penguins’ attempt to break into the Russian hockey business in the early 1990s, immediately after the breakup of the So...
Red Wings top prospect Moritz Seider is staying home in Germany for the short term. With Detroit out of the playoffs for the fourth straight year and American Hockey League players like Seider sidelined by the COVID-19 pandemic, Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman loaned the 19-year-old German defenseman to the Mannheim Eagles in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), Germany's top-tier men's league.
