Texas Tech basketball gets commitment from Arizona State transfer Devan Cambridge

The final roster spot for the Texas Tech men's basketball team appears to have been claimed.

Texas Tech baseball

Former Texas Tech baseball pitcher Brendan Girton announced Friday he plans to transfer to Oklahoma, ending a three-year career with the Red Raiders that began with much promise.

At different times, Girton was a high-leverage reliever and the Red Raiders' No. 1 starter. However, during the 2022 season, he was shut down for injury and didn't pitch after March 20. In 2023, Girton threw six innings of one-hit relief in the season opener and was the Red Raiders' No. 1 starter for the next seven weekend series.

His role increasingly diminished because of ineffectiveness, to the point he was among the players left off the 27-man roster for the NCAA tournament. The big righthander from Shattuck, Oklahoma, finished the season 2-2 with a 5.82 earned-run average, the highest of his career.

CROMWELL, Conn. — Former Texas Tech star Ludvig Aberg made an eagle putt on the way to shooting 5-under-par 65 for the second day in a row in Saturday's third round of the Travelers Championship, putting him in a tie for 12th place.

Aberg holed a chip for birdie on the par-5 No. 6. He was 10-under before he hit his approach in to 13 feet at the par-5 13th and drained the eagle putt. He added another birdie at the par-4 15th.

The 23-year-old Swede will tee it up in the final round at 11:50 a.m. CDT Sunday alongside Lucas Herbert. The group in front of them will be four-time major champion Rory McIlroy and 2021 Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama, who are 12-under.

Aberg recently swept the Ben Hogan Award, the Fred Haskins Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award as the top player in college golf for the 2022-23 school year. He finished No. 1 on the PGA Tour University points list, which earned him full status on the PGA Tour for the rest of this season and the 2024 season.

“This past year has been an incredible journey," Aberg said in a statement, "and I couldn’t be more excited to wear the 3-Stripes [adidas' logo] as I start this next chapter of my career. The team at adidas is always committed to making the best for golfers and I’m proud to officially join the team."
