Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman has been hospitalized once again.

Bowman suffered a partially collapsed lung in the Red Raiders’ loss to West Virginia on Sept. 29. He returned to action a few weeks later, but was again injured “for a reoccurence” of the partially collapsed lung in Saturday’s night’s loss to Oklahoma.

Bowman was injured on a hit late in the first half, TTU head coach Kliff Kingsbury said after the game. The program said in a press release that Bowman was transported to Convenant Medical Center in Lubbock to be evaluated.

“He will be held overnight for observation,” the statement said.

During halftime, Bowman came out to warm up for the second half but was in discomfort while throwing some passes with teammates. From there, he retreated to the locker room for evaluation and was shut down for the rest of the game.

On ESPN’s broadcast of the game, it was speculated that Bowman may have been hit in the head with a football, causing him to miss the second half. Later in the third quarter, however, ESPN found footage of Bowman doubled over in pain after throwing a pass.

Bowman helped TTU jump out to a 31-28 halftime lead over the seventh-ranked Sooners. Before exiting the game, Bowman, a true freshman, was 21-of-26 for 227 yards and two touchdowns.

He was replaced by Jett Duffey. Duffey threw two touchdowns and ran for another, but Texas Tech ended up losing, 51-46.

The Red Raiders dropped to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in Big 12 play with the loss. No. 17 Texas visits Lubbock next week. If Bowman cannot play, Duffey or Week 1 starter McLane Carter will get the start for the Red Raiders.
