Texas RB Jonathon Brooks has ‘big shoes to fill’ in 2023

Texas boasted an excellent running game this season with star running backs Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson.

Robinson took home the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s best running back in the country. He ran for 1,580 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns, adding 19 receptions for 314 yards and two scores as a receiver. Robinson established himself as one of the best running backs in program history.

Johnson provided Texas’ offense a great change of pace behind Bijan. A fan-favorite player who finished his Texas career with 2,190 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns, along with 420 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

Texas is looking to sophomore running back Jonathon Brooks to step up with the dynamic running-back duo headed to the NFL Draft.

247Sports named Brooks as one of 12 players in with the “biggest shoes to fill” entering the 2023 season.

Not only does Texas lose the superstar running back in Robinson, but the Longhorns also saw backup running back Roschon Johnson depart for the NFL. Enter Brooks, who saw the majority of his action against Kansas in a late-season blowout. Brooks ran 11 times for 108 yards and two scores in the victory, as he was the Longhorns’ third-leading rusher this season behind Robinson and Johnson. The Halletsville (Texas) product is a former four-star recruit who was the No. 25 running back from the Class of 2021.

Brooks can make a name for himself against No. 12 Washington in the Alamo Bowl. People around the program are excited about with Brooks can do in place of Robinson and Johnson.
