Texas basketball lands 2023 four-star guard Chris Johnson

Texas’ basketball team lost some major production to the NBA and especially from the guard spots.

The Longhorns lost their three leading scorers in Marcus Carr, Sir’Jabari Rice, and Timmy Allen. Carr led the team in assists and steals, while Rice was one of the better three-point shooters on the roster.

Texas was able to make a splash in the transfer portal in landing Max Abmas from Oral Roberts, but the Longhorns still lost younger guards that were likely to step into larger roles.

Former five-star Arterio Morris opted to transfer to Kansas, and Texas also lost their two commits in the 2023 class to the professional ranks. On Monday, the Longhorns were able to get a very high quality guard in the class of 2023 in Chris Johnson.

The Montverde (FL) product was originally committed to Kansas but decided earlier this month to request a release from his National Letter of Intent. He was granted his request and was able to consider a few schools which he eventually trimmed down to Texas, Arkansas, and Washington.

The four-star who ranks as the No. 53 player in the country took to Twitter to announce his commitment to Texas. He will be the lone high school player the Longhorns are bringing in, along with their four transfers that make up the No. 7 transfer class in the country.
