Texans unsure who'll start vs. Titans

If head coach Wade Phillips knows who will start at quarterback for the Houston Texans on Sunday, he is not sharing the information with the Tennessee Titans.

Case Keenum missed Week 16 with a thumb injury and Matt Schaub, who began the season as the starter, took his spot. Keenum said last week he plans to be ready to go Sunday against the Titans, but his status remains up in the air with the injury to his throwing hand.

Keenum took his usual reps at Thursday's practice and Phillips said he would start if healthy.

Schaub guided the Texans to a win over the Titans in Week 2, throwing two interceptions in what was Houston's most recent victory. They enter the Week 17 regular-season finale with a 13-game losing streak dating to that Sept. 15 matchup with Tennessee.

The Titans have undergone their own changes since September, most notably losing quarterback Jake Locker to a season-ending injury. However, backup Ryan Fitzpatrick passed for a career-high 402 yards and four touchdowns two weeks ago.

Without giving a day when he'll decide on a starter, Phillips said he will know "later in the week."

If Keenum cannot play, Schaub would get the call. Phillips said Thursday he will not start T.J. Yates, the No. 3 quarterback who was leapfrogged for the starting job by Keenum.
